ok so i know you can put a ls 5th gear in a b16 tranny, but are the other gear swappable? like if i got a hydro ls trans, could i put a cable b16 gear in it?? this is just me being curios thanks

 

Im pretty sure you can, but ill let the more informed members give you the 100% sure answer. Also, I think you mean you can put a ls 5th gear in a gsr transmission

 

thanks, lol no i mean b16 with ls 5th gear, its been done and well know for better mpg and lower rpms at highway speeds, i basically low on cash i see it like a hybrid tranny, ls tranny with b16 gears no clue in hell if it will work just curios

 

gsr tranny is a b16 transmission. you have gsr or ls. ls has long gears (including the long 5th) and the gsr tranny has quicker gears. so basically you want to put an ls 5th in a gsr.

 

im pretty sure you cant take the gears from a cable tranny and put them in a hydro because the thing that holds the coutershaft and mainshaft together is different in the 2 transmissions. one has 2 rods (not sure of name) and the hydro has 3

 

i'm pretty sure a b16 tranny has shorter gears than a gsr

 

Im doing the same thing but I'm useing a 93 ls trans and useing the gears from my 91 j1 trannny.

ok, you putting b16 gears in a ls? what i WANT to know is if i can put B16 GEARS in a LS Trans NOT LS gears in B16 i want B16 IN LS TRANS is this possible has it been done

 

I'm doing this right now I'm taking all my gears from my j1 b16 tranny, and putting it in my 93 ls trany

 

As far as I know, the ONLY cable transmission that you can swap hydro gears back and forth is a YS1 case.

well there cable b16 tranny that he has, and i want to put the internals in a hydro ls trans...

 

Unless it is a YS1 transmission from an Integra XSi (the only B16 that came with a YS1), then it WILL NOT work.

i was reading and thought id offer a different route ls trans with mfactory 4.9 final.
this will sit between 98 type r and xsi trans mission and ls trans cheaper to get

 

Huh? Where is the confusion?

It will either all bolt together and work, or it won't. I have a YS1 case with DC GSR gears and it works fine.

 

Im also doing the same project, i have a b17a ys1 transmission, but its a cable transmission so i want to put the b17 1-4th gear in the LS hydro transmission but keep the ls 5th gear.. is this all possible you think?

 

i have a gsr with b16 gears right now and the b16 gears are defenitly diffrent then the gsr ones

yes, all hyro tranny's have interchangable parts. Personally, i don't think it's worth the time and money!!! Just get another tranny

If you are going for a complete rebuild, contact gear speed, they would be a top choice in your rebuild regardless of what setup you would like

You don't want a short 1st, 2nd, then this TALL 3rd gear, then back to a short 4th

 

okay.. but how about if I leaved 1st, 2nd, b16 gears and 3rd, 4th, 5th Ls
on the b16 tranny....will that be better
