how are aem v2 intakes with dc5
be more specific...good buy as in what? It is really over priced...if it rains alot in your area then it would be okay...but if not then it is not worth it...you are better off with a cold air intake..and a aem v2 is a cold air intake but not for the k-series motor.
its fine man, i like it. even though i may prefer Cold air, but i bought the aem v2 cause i got it for a great deal. its also an 3" pipe well from 2.5" from the intake manifold then gets wider to 3".
ill say that, you'll probably hear vtec more louder than cai. cause the intake is right by the driverside of the fender. so youll definitely hear an upgrade from the intake, with all the whistles and winds.
you wont be disapointed though, if thats what your looking to hear

i love it, had it for 3 yrs now and still going strong.. i just cleaned the filter once and its been running smooth ever since.
plus its makes your vtec scream.... its louder than my buddy's injen cai....
the intake made a difference for me... so it should have the same results for you.

its not bad for daily driving and what ever you might do on the street but its pretty lame at the track. You get a few decent passes and the heat soak starts to kill your times. Ill usually run around 14.0 before it starts to heat up and if i dont let it cool for a while im around 14.5 or so all day.
would it be good for me cause i live in a suburb of chicago and in the end of summer fall we get alot of rain and then winter here sucks with the snow would i be ok with it still>?
If that is the case then go ahead and get it...The only thing you benefit from it is you'll have a better chance of not getting hydrolock and it is carb legal. But I would still opt and go for a cheaper short ram intake with the same size for alot cheaper...Or if you want quality then go for a injen short ram which has a diameter of 3.5 inch.
I have the AEM V2. Its a decent intake...to get you through CARB and smog issues since its CARB legal. Performance wise, its a decent intake. Not much better than a regular short ram, not as great as a CAI. I have a fujita CAI and I feel quite a bit of a difference in power between the two intakes. I dyno'd at Church automotive last week with my 03 type s. Mods include hondata reflash, fujita CAI, comptech shorty, stock cat and greddy EVO exhaust, and got 205whp and 149 ft. lbs tq. Hondata reflash was designed for use with a CAI.
One of the reasons why I don’t like the AEM V2, is how the upper coolant hose will touch the AEM V2, which means it heats up the intake pipe considerably. If you drive the car for 15-30 minutes, pop the hood and touch the AEM V2 pipe, you’ll notice how hot the pipe gets, to the point where its too hot to leave your hand on it for more than 5-10 seconds.
With my fujita CAI, even as the upper radiator hose expands, it never touches the intake pipe. I’ve heard of a few people using some foil tape/wrap on the upper radiator hose to shield it from the AEM V2 pipe, and I’ve seen a few people use heat wrap on the AEM V2 pipe, but I would just suggest purchasing a CAI. If you go with an AEM CAI, its CARB legal. You do run the risk of hydrolock with a CAI. I don’t drive my car in the rain and if I have to, I’ll swap out my fujita CAI for my stock intake to get me by. I’m probably going to sell my AEM V2 soon.
