Default Improving handling on 09 Fit

I do not see where some of the reviewers are coming from when they consider the Fit a "fun to drive " car. This is the worst handling car I have had in the past 20 years. More specifically, going into a curve it has too much understeer and seems to plow and scrub the front tires and corrections are not al all smooth. I have always been used to performance cars so have probably been spoiled, but I have rented econoboxes at European Airports and they have handled a lot better than the Fit. I am trying to figure out whether to put up with it for a year or so or to trade it in before 1000 miles are up. I think (but are not sure) that things could be improved by adding a rear anti sway bar, and changing out the tires. However, I cannot see any aftermarket bars that are available, and the same goes for alternate tires in that size. I could of course go to a different size tire but with a lower profile, but I might have to replace the stock steel wheels with a different size, and that would throw out the speedometer. Maybe aftermarket struts would help too. I just don't want to throw a ton of money at it and still not be satisfied. I might be better off just biting the bullet and cutting my losses right now, but before doing that would like to find someone who ahds been down the same road.

Did you not drive one before signing paperwork and taking ownership? Shame on you if that's the case.

What kind of handling did you expect from a FWD hatch? I certainly hope you didn't expect the same cornering speeds from the Fit that you would see out of Honda's S2000.

I think you are just not adjusting to the Fit. I drove MY07-08 Fits and they are quite capable of being tracked; even in stock form with just adding better rubber underneath it.

Spend some time at an auto x and learn how to drive the car and you will be much better off.

I test drove the demo "Sport Model" and was assured by the salesman that the base model was exactly the same so far as engine, suspension, tires etc
and that the only differences were that the wheels on the demo one were alloy and some other cosmetics, like lower body sills, and that all Honads come with soft suspension and that no performance options are available on either model. I did not drive the car I actually bought until after the paperwork was completed and I officially took delivery. It did not feel the same to me as the demo model and when I pulled into a gas station on the way back to check the tire pressures one was 7# more than the other, so I pumped up the other by the difference, but the car still did not seem to handle properly. The dealer lied as the Sport has wider, lower profile tires and also a rear sway bar and possibly different suspension. It also came with keyless entry as std whereas I was charged a further $700 for this addon. OK. I got ripped! Whther the Sport model handles that much better is still debatable

Ive got the Cusco front and rear tower bars, and RSR titainum drop springs, and it handles AMAZING!. the first mod was the RSR springs, and that took away about 80% of the body roll, and then once i put the front and rear strut bars on, that sealed the deal. along with good tires on my buddy clubs, i am Very happy with the handling of my 09 sport

you bought the wrong car. get your priorities straight before buying a car.

Sport/Performance car.
Great gas mileage
Storage/versatility
cheap to maintain/repair.
-------------------------------

Can't have them all. Get the 370z/mustang/camaro if you want sport.

If you take a look at the contract you signed when you bought the car, it basically says that the dealership isn't responsible for anything a salesperson tells you. In other words, you signed a contract that says you agree the salesman is a liar and you won't hold the dealership liable. The reason I know your dealer's contract says this is because ALL of them do. There isn't a dealership in America that doesn't make you promise not to hold them to the sales person's lies.

What I'd like to see is people start suing salespeople who lie to sell them a car. That's gotta be illegal--fraud or something. Yeah, I realize this is 11 years late. Was researching the Fit and found this by acccident.
