Default What is this connector?

Ok, My 92 Civic Lx had a connector i believe for the speedo on the rear transmition i connected that one and now my speedo works but jumps around sometimes and then goes to 0mph. I looked again and in the front of the tranny is a 2 wire plug but it was wripped when i changed my engine out. What is this sensor for?

Its a 5spd Z6 tranny.

Here we go again.

Good evening, my 1992 Honda Civic, LX trim to be certain, has an electrical linkage by which I believe accounts for velocity. I attached this uncertain segment to my gear-oriented powertrain component, and my instrument panel now informs my occupants and I when I have matched the desired speed. However, intermittently a failure will occur, reporting a velocity of "no distance, given one hour's time".

I glanced once more at this unknown item below my bonnet, and found yet another strange piece of equipment: This one merely had two points of contact. However, during a motor transfusion, the conductor was damaged. What is the purpose of this now-defunct item?

The gear mechanism in question is of a D16Z6, with five hand-driven gear selections.

Now for an actual answer. If the 2-wire plug is connected to the transmission, it's reverse lights. It could also be idle air control valve, since it's in the same general area. Are you throwing any CELs?

*thud* A+++++ would lol again.

OP: the 2 wire definitely sounds like the backup sensor. The other plug is the vehicle speed sensor. If you're getting intermittent speedometer failures, check the actual plug on the speed sensor, and the speed sensor itself. I've had one of the pins rust out before and break off in the plug, so that I had to replace the speed sensor AND the plug. This caused intermittent failures as the pin would make and break contact periodically.

I've found that by far, the easiest way to get plugs like this is to cut them off of junkyard cars. Doesn't even have to be a civic plug, as long as it's the same shape and pinout - I got my VSS plug off of like a 91 Accord. You should be able to find something that will work for the backup sensor plug too.
