VSS Help
I tried to change my transmission fluid today. I was able to take off the tranny drain plug and fill plug fine. I filled my tranny with only about 1.5quarts till it started spilling out.
My car was level on jack stands so I don't know what the issue is.
I then tried to take off the VSS to fill that way and could not get the sensor off. I took off two 10mm bolts and the sensor came apart, then I took off that weird 10mm bolt and the VSS would not come out.
What the hell am I doing wrong here?

Re: (dL_EG6)
so your trying to fill up your tranny through the VSS located on the top rear section of your tranny i'm assuming, if that's the case. I believe you filled it correctly when you made sure the car was levelled then fill it with about 1.5 quarts of MTL till you start seeing some come out of the fill plug, that's when you know it's done. You don't have to fill it up more then that.

Re: (dad0c402)
Well, let me clarify..
I took off the drain plug and let it drain.
Then took off the fill plug and filled it with a fluid pump w/ Honda MTF.
I noticed that it only filled up to about 1.5quarts and I know the transmission takes 1.8quarts.
I researched and found that we can fill through the VSS. I attempted to take the VSS off but can't get it off.
The transmission shifts fine but reverse is kind of notchy but goes in.

If it is on a level surface, just fill it up to the check/fill hold and it's full when it comes out. No reason to mess with the VSS.
The reason Reverse is notchy going in is because reverse does not has a synchronizer. Try putting it in first gear first, then go to reverse. usually makes it go right in.
Hope this helps..

Re: (guttedEF)
yea mine been having trouble going into reverse lately too, just pushing it into 1st or 4th first opens it up, it must be a cold winter thing. 1.5 or 1.8 as long as it's at the fill plug it's full.
