Timing belt replacement = Rape
Okay, I need to replace my timing belt along with the seals and water pump and the things that go with that. I called Chatanooga TN dealer he quoted me $600, then Sons in Atlanta and he quoted me $1100. A local place will do labor for $250 and I have to supply parts so it would be about $400. I have no where to do this myself, nor the tools. I am affraid to go to the local place because I live in the stix and I just don't trust it. Does anyone know of a dealer around the knoxville, chatanooga, atlanta area that doesn't rape you? What did you guys pay? Thanks.
You don't HAVE TO go to a dealer to have this done. Even if you don't want to do it yourself, any independent mechanic should be able to do it. You just need to find an independent mechanic you can trust. Ask your friends and neighbors in the area - especially folks who own Acura/Honda cars - or look for ASE certifications at a minimum. And I'm sure folks here who live in Knoxville, Chattanooga, or Atlanta can give you good recommendations for independent mechanics who will be more reasonable than the dealers.

I have all the tools less a breaker bar which is no big deal and the tool to get off the "crank wheel". Both tools are easily obtainable so I guess thats not in my way. I really have no where to do the work, and I am not very knowledgeable about timing the car. I know it is a simple task to someone who has done it, but I am not one of those people.
However, after reading the article that Hondretti posted....ehh. I may be able to scoot the car all the way over in my storage shed and do this. Thanks.

where in florida do you live? We can get it done here in broward, father is ase certified, 25 years of experience, or if you wanna take a jab at it i can help you out, its a pretty simple process for me atleast.
I live in NC now. A few things I have questions on, as I am going to just suck it up in my small storage and do the bitch. Is there a certain way the actual belt goes on? Next my torch wrench doesn't go that high to torque down the crank pully bolt. Other than that, the job seems a lot easier than I thought.
there is a easy way for putting the belt on dohc's make sure the tensioner is not tight and start with one cam or the exhaust cam and then out it over the intake, this is all after you routed it around the water pump and crank gear, as for torquing the crank pulley if you could get an impact wrench you could get it pretty damn close to the 180 ft/lbs or whatever it is
I know it is a good price, I would rather get the experience and some new tools for the $250. I am just nervous. Does the belt have to go on any certain direction?
