Default rebuilding b18b and broke! got a question

so i was wondering... if i just want to build a b18b as a daily driver. not as a race motor..just a plain daily driver, can i use the ACL bearing kit they sell online?

Here's what happened. I bought a motor and i was told that it was in good running condition. popped the oil pan and windage tray off to find that the number two cylinder spun a rod bearing. well almost... it was flatend out to a really thin piece of metal. so here's my idea. I'm going to buy another crank that's in working condition. Can i just replace the crank and buy the ACL main and rod bearing set w/ thrust washer? or am i really going to have to plastigauge the crank and buy honda bearings if the tolerance isn't into spec.

Remember, this motor will not be raced, just need it to run as a decently stong, last for alittle while motor.

WILL THIS WORK!?!? i've lost my job and my IS300 is killing me on gas!

Rather its raced or daily driven theirs no way to know what your bearing clearances are, or if their all uniform without plastigauging.

It sucks that ACL only sells in one or two sizes because you could end up with a wide variation of different clearances from crank to crank.

Best thing to do is buy 2 half moon green OEM main & rod bearings from the dealership, then plastigauge each main & rod to see where you are in terms of if the you'll benefit from the ACL's and more importantly if their all uniform being roughly the same.

Chances are the ACL's will probably do fine, but I'd be more concerned about the clearances all being close to each other for even oil pressure across the journals for longevity of the motor, which is probably why honda offers a variety of different sizes to help correct the variance of tolerances on there cranks & blocks.

Well you should be able to get a close indication of what color oem bearings you need by using the codes on the crank, rods and block. If they are all green and brown bearings, then the acl standards will be a great choice. If they are all green and yellows, look into the acl race series as they are a bit thinner than the acl standards.

I take it back, yes there's always the crank stamp and block stamp if you want to use the oem chart instead of plastigauging, although with a used crank I would still plastigauge to know for sure.

Yeah, plastigauge is good, but precision measurements are even better, that's if you have access to precise and accurate tools.

Thanks everyone for your input... I'm very frustrated right now because I thot I was going to get a check for unemployment every week, but I was wrong. I get it only every two weeks. So I'm so f'd its not even funny!

What are the average prices of main bearings and rod bearings from honda?

Sorry about your luck.

I remember paying roughly ~$10 per half moon, but the mains usually run a 1.00 more then the rods.

www.hondapartsunlimited.com
but like I already said, acl std and acl race are really similar to honda brown, green and yellow bearings. So determine what color bearings you need before you buy any. I remember I had a build where all there bearings were green except 2 rod bearings that were yellow, and the acl std. bearings gave me the clearances I was shooting for.
