Default Bumping noise coming from under 02 Civic. Any ideas?

Recently I started hearing a noise coming from under my 02 civic coupe. The sound is similar to if you were to drive up a curb and bottom out the car only I hear it when i'm driving on flat and somewhat bumpy roads. The noise is completely random, sometimes when I hit a small bump in the road I hear it, other times I don't. Also when im shifting from 1st to 2nd I sometimes hear it. Every once in in awhile ill hear it when shifting into higher gears as well.

I personally think its something loose bumping up against the bottom of my car but i'm no mechanic. So I was wondering if any of you had an idea what it might be and if its something I should be alarmed about. I'm getting my car jacked up in a garage this friday so I thought it might be nice to have an idea what it might be before that happens. Thanks.

Front lower control compliance bushings, engine mounts, anti-sway bar endlinks, and many other possible culprits to be honest.

I had the same noises a couple of years ago on my 02. Dealer replaced the bushings for the stablilizer bars.

I had a similar noise before taking it in for inspection last april. I had a bad front lower control arm bushing I believe is what they called it? I am beginning to here a simalr noise from the passenger side now, so I am guessing that will have to be replaced this year :-(

Its probably your suspension. Probably your control arm bushings.

isnt it better to just replace the entire control arm then tearing out and repressing another bushing?

It's probably the bushings then. Any idea what price range is to replace that?

well i would first make sure what the REAL problem is before you end up wasting money on the wrong thing. But back to your point, say if its only a bushing. why would you want to replace the whole thing (which will cost more money) when you can just replace the bushing and it would be fine. Therfore, saving you money.

But if you are the kind of person that likes to get it all done at once, then yea, do what you wanna do

If it is the front lower control arm compliance bushing torn then its simple as to why it makes the noise. since the rubber is broken, the arm is free to move around knock the surrounding area making the noise. that one you can DG yourself, jack up the front, then turn the wheel out and look at the bushing. DG it yourself and save money.

x2. if you have any feeling in your clutch like knocking then i would tighten them right away before you snap your wheel stud.
