Default holset questions

i just picked up my hx40w and i got a few questions about it. if you look at the first picture theres a galvenized ring in there and wondering if i should take it out because its covering the anti-surge part of the housing? next in the second picture it shows the pocket where the wastegate gases dispose should i have that welded shut for better flow?
the exhaust housing is divided i was planning on knife edging the center divider what do you guys think?

thanks
john

The ring is the "silencer ring" with it in you still get some anti surge effects and with it out it will be louder when it spools. Not sure on the flow on the exhaust side, I can't see blocking that off hurting anything if it's not too much trouble and you are using an external wastegate. Can you post a pic of the holset tag? There have been some counterfeits floating around lately.

with that ring out would the anti-surge be better? yes going to be using an external wastegate. im not at home right now but i will take a pic of the tag. how will you be able to tell if its counterfeit?

i currently have a brand new holset hx30, which i got for free. haha. for the wastegate solution u will probably be better off running an external wastegate. what i plan on doing is drilling and tapping a hole in the flange on the exhaust side of the turbo, where the wastegate is. there is the wastegate valve under that cover, and when you thread a long bolt into the hole that u drill and tap, it holds that valve down, allowing you to run external wastegate

i was going to have a flapper welded shut. also its a divided housing but im not planning on running a divided manifold, do you think i should grind down the divider to a knife point so its not like the exhaust is hitting a wall?

im planning on running a dividing manifold flange too. im currently fabricating mine right now, and yes i would grind the center of the flange to a knife point. just so the exhaust gas flows smoother

have u done any research on the holset hx40? it may be a little to big for a honda d series motor. the hx35's seem to work good and the hx30 isn't really as popular, but is smaller than the 35 and should spool even faster. im not saying your hx40 wont work, but you need to make sure it will even build boost at a decent rpm.
