88-91 vs 92-00 Civic Shock Differences
Hey guys,
Looking for some facts on the differences between 88-91 and 92-00 shocks. I've the rears are basically the same (some differences between 92-95 and 96-00 bushings width on lower control arm, but this is easily rectified).
Regarding the fronts, I've read different things.. some saying the lengths are significantly different and others saying they aren't..
This is a quote I found from a guy at Koni:
This says the lengths are very close.
I am also aware that the front forks are different between 88-91 and 92-00 in that the 92-00 have a larger diameter hole for the shock body (1.65" vs 1.5"). I can handle this difference as well.
I'm mostly worried about any significant lenght/valving differences and the above quote from a guy at Koni seem to indicate they are very little.
Just looking for some confirmation here.
Thanks
Tim

"...the biggest change with the 88-91 and the 92-00 Civic is that the lower "wishbone" (what the shocks go into on the bottom) is smaller on the 88-91 cars. This can be interchanged though the lengths and the valving between the 2 Civic applications isn't worth the work. The valving is basically identical and the lengths are less than a half inch of each other."

That sounds right, but I can't say for sure. I do know the suspension stroke was increased for the EG chassis which accounts for the higher hood line and slightly longer dampers. Valving won't matter too much as they use the same shocks for many different civics of varying weights. A lighter car makes the shocks seem stiffer...
