Default 97 Accord EX - transmission replacement ?

Our wonderful wagon's transmission is slipping. (1997 Accord EX Station Wagon with more than 223,000 miles)

1) Is there a reliable/reputable source for a new-to-us transmission ?
2) How involved is changing the transmission for a shade tree ?
3) Would you trust/pay a shop to do it instead ?

We really don't want to sell this car with a bad transmission. It's been from California to New York, several times. Great car, everything still works. Just a little slipping.

Thanks for all the relevant suggestions !

For anyone that cares, the engine is fine, uses little to now oil, starts first time, etc.

The only thing I've replaced on this car since buying it long ago (with 100,000 miles already on it) is the battery, the radiator, and radiator fan. The radiator was my fault, for shutting the hood with the prop rod in the wrong position. The fan was most likely an electrical problem that I didn't want to figure out. A $40 junkyard fan fixed the problem.

Looooooove this honder !

I got ripped off when I got a new auto tranny in my 94 ex I paid 800 for a reman tranny. It started slipping just a few hundred miles after...needless to say I'm going 5 speed in the very near future
