need to have turbo rebuilt
Trending Topics
But what happens is 99% of the rebuilders will not tear apart an entire assembly just for one sealing ring. They will replace ALL portions of the turbocharger to ensure that it is a clean rebuild, and worth their while. Myself included.
This includes but is not limited to the capscrew, locking plate, thrust plate, sealing ring, thrust bearings, and center housing dowels.

$425 is good.. Take it and run.

No. Not necessarily. Turbos w/ warranties outside of the manufacturer are pretty uncommon. That's par for the course, unfortunately. You must understand; the rebuilder can only do so much to make sure the turbo is working properly. The rest of that reliability rests on the end-user. That risk of no warranty indirectly ensures that the end-user does what is proper to ensure that the install has been performed properly.
I paid about $450 a few years ago on my greddy 18g. There was a mishap putting it back on my new B16a (threw a rod cap into a cylinder on the old b16a2
) and the turbo spewed oil into the DP. Luckily the engine was being worked on by Tom @ Acura and Honda specialists in Jonesboro, GA and he took care of it. The turbo shop rebuilt the turbo and all was good until I sold the kit. As far as I know the turbo is still kicking.
Luckily you have a rebuildable turbo unlike those in the garret GT series.
