Default wiring check | viper 791 xv alarm

Updated 10/31/2009:

Car: 1990 Civic LX sedan
Alarm: Viper 791 XV

This is what I finished with. I ran into a few issues which are explained in the notes below. Any additonal input is welcome.

notes:

*On the car diagram fcm showed in post reply #3, there are some mistakes with the wiring guide. They are as follows...
-The power door lock wires are wrong. The correct location is into the driver's door to the relay box.
-The accessory wire is wrong. I spliced into blue/white for now. This allows power to the fan during remote start mode. But while running in remote start mode the radio and a/c do not power on. I havent found the fix yet.

Here is another guide with the correct information for the 88-91 Civic from the12volt. http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/...tail/1044.html

*On the alarm instructions it says to use the green/red door trigger for the trunk but this is wrong. Instead, use the alarm's blue H1/7 and tap into the trunk light wire which is green/black with single silver dot located in the driver's kick panel. Doing this triggers the alarm when the trunk is opened.

my wiring diagram:

H1
Red/White - n/a
Red- black/white IGN harness
Brown - red siren
Black - chassis ground
Violet - n/a
Blue - green/black with single silver dot driver's kick panel
Green - green/red door trigger/dome light driver's kick panel

Light Blue - n/a

Door Lock
Green - green/white at switch in driver's door

Relay Satellite (ribbon harness)
-all connected

H3
Black/White - spliced into ground
Violet/White - blue cluster
Brown - green/white brake switch
Gray - spliced into hoodpin
Blue/White - n/a

H4

Green - black/white IGN key side
Red - white IGN harness

Check ot www.the12volt.com Its a forum but there is also a wiring database for alarms & remote starters. I'm a tech so let me know if you need further help.

Found a couple problems right away.

* When remote started, the car cranks but doesnt run. Then attempts to crank again but no go. I stopped the remote start after the second attempt.
-updated fix: Redid power lead connections.

* Doors dont lock/unlock when arm/disarmed. I most likely tapped into the wrong source? On the guide for the power lock/unlock it says (type B). Can someone better explain that, not sure what that means.
-updated fix: Guide on above post was wrong for door lock/unlock source. Found another guide with the correct wiring information. Updated original post with the correct information.

* Siren works, door trigger works as long as the dome light isnt switched off. I havent tested anything else yet cause I wanted to run this by you guys again. Anything else you guys see wrong? Thanks.
-updated fix: Cleaned door switches as they were corroded.

"When remote started, the car cranks but doesnt run"

Check that the ign. output lead is properly connected to the correct lead.
Make sure you programmed tach properly.

Type B door locks are neg.(-) trigger, meaning the door lock circuit needs a ground, [neg.(-)] pulse to lock/unlock.

Either you are connected into the wrong wires, for door locks, or the door lock output from alarm is N/G, test by unplugging from alarm brain and grounding the green and blue leads directly to chassis ground, [one at a time] if still not working you have connected to the wrong leads,

I would also recheck the door trigger input, it should make no diff. if light is turned on or not. 94

Thanks. Got the door trigger issue fixed. Found out it was just dirty contacts. As for the power door locks, I tapped into the wrong wire. Found another site with the right information.

* Now on the remote start heavy guage wires. Theres 3 red 12v wires on the relay satellite. Is it neccessary to tap all of them into the white 12v constant?
-updated fix: Yes, tap all of them to a 12v constant.

* Also on the ingition harness, theres 2 white/black wires coming from the fuse. After the connecting plug, on the key side 1 of the white/black turns into an all white wire and the other stays white/black. My question is, are they both 12v constants even though one switches color after the connecting plug? Is it normal to tap all the red alarm wires into just one 12v constant?
-updated fix: Use the black/white wire for constant 12v source.

Not sure, there may be two 12V+ constants, some wire guides say it is white and others say it is white/black, it would not be unusual for there to be more then one, most cars have two or more, most Honda/Acura have one.

I would test them to be sure, and yes, all three power leads can be connected to to one power lead, if you have two power leads put 2 on one and the 3rd on the second one. 94

Everything works now except the keyless entry. I tried tracing the green/white and green/red wires from the door switch but it ends up at the gray "door lock control" box inside the door. None of the wires coming out of the door harness is the color I need. If anything Ill run the wires all the way to the door.

Thanks again.

The door lock wires should be low in the drivers kick panel.
Check the color of the wires on the pass. door lock switch, they run to the power door lock control module in the drivers door, so must be in the harness running into the drivers door. 94

Thank you everyone for the help. Everything has been working fine for the past month. Found some misinformation on some of the guides so I had to rewire my alarm a few times. Because of this, I HIGHLY suggest a factory manual and multimeter. This is proof you can't trust everything you read on the internet.

All corrections are noted and my original post is updated to show any changes Ive done with my install. Again, thanks to those who were helpful.

I installed this alarm on my 97 civic using most of the info here, thanks.

I have a question though, when I do the remote start and the car turns on, the alarm itself tries to restart itself again, or maybe it's like that?

The cluster lights go on n off, n the chime comes on n off.

The lights blinking on and off is normal under remote start ups, it should explain that in the manual. The chime should only be going off when the door is open. The blinking altogether should turn off after you turn the key to the on position and press the brake pedal.

As for the starter trying to crank again after remote start up, sounds like the alarm isnt getting the signal the engine has already been started. Id recheck all the connections again, especially the rpm signal. If all is good then Im thinking it could be a relay not switching. Hopefully one of the installers here can drop some correct answers for you.
