Will my JDM d15b pass MD emissions?
I am buying a 95 Civic, and swapping out the d15b7 for a jdm d15b. All I really plan to do is intake headers and exhaust, but I heard jdm engines wont pass emissions. I know this is true in places like California, because their emissions are so strict, but does anybody know or had experience with getting their jdm engine to pass in MD? Any help would be appreciated.
They don't lift the hood so they have no idea what is under it. Since it is OBD1 they check for CELs, check the gas cap holds pressure, look under the car with a mirror to make sure the exhaust system looks good, and then drive it on a dyno with the sniffer hooked up. As long as you sniff below the limit, and you probably will since the limit is pretty high for a car that runs well, you pass.
Last time I was tested they were more concerned that I wanted to walk my dog through the waiting area than they were about the car.
I have also heard that if they can not get your car over the rollers because it is slammed, they will just give you a waiver.
