are these speakers good?
so im thinking of getting new speakers cus i THINK i need new ones. the sound gets all staticy and ugly when the bass is bumped up even just a little. i dont think they are blown. well here are the specs of the speakers i have in my car. i've been trying to learn about how car audio works but could someone tell me how good these speakers are? i wanna get better ones that have good bass and clean sound.

I would guess they are pretty good speakers, but sensitivity is a tad on the low side, but not bad at all.
They would probably shine if you have an external amplifier to power them. (See peak power of 130 watts, most head units don't put out 1/4 of that).
Although I think over any stock speaker they will be a huge improvement.
I didnt see any reviews or any place that sells it, looks like it is an outdated model:

hmm the guy that gave it a review on the site you gave me seemed to be pleased with them. ya i couldnt find anything else on them either. except some guy selling a set on ebay for 8.99! LOL. so i figured these were cheapo speakers. its hooked up to a kenwood kac-7295 amp. the only problem i have with them is that i cant play music with any bass or else it sounds all "poppy." just dont wanna waste money on new speakers if these speakers are good already. maybe its just wiring problems.
lol no not to good to be true. just crappy speakers. I would save your money and get a decent component set. with the mid range and tweeter separate going into a cross-over. much cleaner sound!
lol i might just get new speakers. what do you guys suggest for under $100? i was looking at these on best buy.

i think im set on getting some 5.25" alpine type r's. here's the specs:
Pair of Type-R 5.25" 2-way Speakers
Power Handling:
Peak: 270 watts per speaker
RMS: 90 watts per speaker
Impedance: 4 ohms
Hybrid layered-pulp woofer with rubber surround
1" swiveling silk ring-dome tweeter
New Shallow Mounting Designed to fit virtually any vehicle
Custom Mounting Adapter kit included
Frequency Response: 70 Hz-27 kHz
Sensitivity: 86 dB
Top Mount depth: 2-5/16"
they'll be hooked up to a 600w kenwood amp. is this combo going to work?

If the hole in the door is 6" you should get 6" speakers. The reason I'm saying this is because those type-Rs are 5.25" speakers and they won't fit the speaker holes on your doors.
If you run tiny speakers with a big amplifier (speaking in terms of power ratings) then you will damage the speakers.
The other thing, how many channels does your amplifier have? It's probably a subwoofer amplifier (it has a mono/single output) so the only way to make it work is if you put 7 or more speakers in series with each other but that's not a good idea generally. Your best bet is to buy an amplifier made to run midranges but you should buy both speakers and an amplifier to match each other. If you buy one before the other it will be harder to find a match for it (unless it's a popular item).
Also, we have to know the minimum impedance of your amplifier.

hmm ur right. i ended up doing more research and the 5.25" would be too small. i plan on purchasing a pair of 6.5" ALPINE SPR-17C's.
i don't know the impedence or any other specs of my amplifier. i did some research and i couldn't find ANYTHING about this amp. i bought the car with it so i have nothing. its a kenwood kac-7295. all i know is that its a 600w 2-chanel bridgeable amp.
edit: damnit, i just measured the hole on my door and its 5.25". so i guess im going to have to get 5.25" then.

The other option (if you want to have a speaker with a bigger diameter) is to cut the hole yourself. But if you don't want to be bothered you'll have to get 5.25" speakers.
How many speakers are you going to power? 2 or 4?
According to this http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=173875 your amp is 150x2 so if you can find two speakers that are more than 150W RMS then you can use your amplifier to power two of those.
If you want to power 4 speakers you will have to get a 4 channel amplifier with an RMS rating that is lower than the speakers' RMS rating.
It's probably best if you use the amplifier you have to run a subwoofer in a bridged mode. Just have to find the minimum impedance on the amplifier and get a subwoofer with the same ratings (probably 4 ohms).

well i will be powering 2 front speakers.
so basically, when pairing up speakers and an amp, the RMS rating for the speakers should be higher than the amp right?
so i can either use the amp to power speakers or power a sub, but not at the same time right? i don't plan on hooking up a sub anyways. just need so good speakers for now.
i was thinking, since the hole is 5.25", can i just get some speaker spacers and be able to fit 6.5" on em? i don't wanna end up hitting the window

You can have either, you just have to match them right. If the amp puts out more power than the speaker can take, you just have to turn down the gains and not turn it up so that you overpower the speakers or they will blow or burn up or ruin them. If the amp doesn't have enough power when you turn it up you can clip the signal (ie a square wave) which will cause the speaker to overheat and hurt them. Really you rarely ever blow a speaker as long as you just don't go turning it up past where it sounds bad anyway, but technically you can ruin a speaker in both ways. As long as the numbers are close I wouldn't worry too much about ruining the speaker.
thanks a lot tazeat and civic_driver! i have my choice set on some alpine type r's. now just need to figure out what size lol. i was talking about getting a spacer because i was thinking, if the hole in my door is 5.25 and i get 6.5's, could i use spacers so that only the magnet would go into the 5.25" hole. i hope you guys follow that. haha. if not ill be set on getting some 5.25"
If you're using spacers you have to make sure that they're deep enough for the speakers. With spacers it might protrude too much and be a problem for you. It's best if you get the size of speakers for your car or make the hole larger to accommodate larger speakers.
alright thanks for the help. i think the 6.5 speakers will bolt on, its just the depth of the speaker/magnet now. the alpine type r's state they have a shallower mounting depth so it might just do. the window is just so close, that's why i thought using spacers would be my only option.
