Really?? So what turbo kit did you go with?? Cuz I wanna go with a H22 swap eventually with a turbo, but I heard there's a lot of issues with gettin them to fit...

if you want to have some good gas mileage and want something to drive around the cities and highways on, get an H23 or F22a tranny. both will keep you out of boost around the cities. but for the highways either F series or H series trannys will keep you at at LEAST 2,8oo-3,oooRPMs.

for a boosted h22a1 motor, I don't know which tranny to use. I got f23 trans and h22 trans here. what you guys think?

I would lower the x-over point and go with the F23, or the manual from an Accord wagon

F22 trans sucks for NA. Longering isn't my thing. Its great for boost though.

For your wants I suggest the M2Y4

Long gears are gay for boost.... Lowering the gear ratios (cogs themselves let alone final drive ) allows for greater tq multiplication... My car makes 660 WHP (94 CD5 accord) The car is a half a second quicker with the short straightcut gearset I have in it over a M2Y4. MORE than that compared to a h23 (M2s4) tranny... Use any of the H22 trannys. If you can get a M2F4 it has the shortest fifth gear... Nice FOR RAPING PEOPLE UP AROUND 140ish, not so nice for cruising, but a good 4k cruise on the freeway (NOTHING big for the H22)

H23 trannys are noticably slower, and ANY accord (F series) tranny shouldnt even be contemplated... Honda engineers get paid for a reason, and theyre good... The longer gears (4 and 5 as 1 2 and 3 are the same as the M2y4) make a notable difference between even the M2S4 and the M2Y4 (Longest 5th gear H22 trans)

Trust me, Ive blown up, rebuilt, and replaced more H trannys than most clowns will ever touch.

If youre worried about 5th gear cruise... get the M2Y4 (5th gen lude)... If you want a nice close ratio 5th gear, get the M2F4....

I suggest the latter...

Your car will be NOTICABLY faster than with a h23 tranny for the most part, and a **** ton moreso than the f trannys. Using the f trannys the H willl even fall out of VTEC between shifts sometimes due to falling down too far in the RPM range..... You COULD lower the X over but your still defeating the purpose... Its NOT the best option for the H, but FAR better than ANY Accord trans

Hewres a 630 WHP pull stopping early (8K rpm). Yes thats fourth gear.

simple

f22 longest gears, cruiser
h23 long gears, midranged
h22 shorter gears, better accel

okay! thanks you guys for your expertise.I think I'm I going to use the H22a1(M2F4) tranny, but I'm going to swap out the 5th gear by use the F23 (P2A8) 5th gear for the freeways and cruise. At least I can have good gas mileage. Besides I think people don't use 5th gear to race anyway. Here's the gear ratio's for the two trannys and for my new gear ratio's;
F23(P2A8) H22a1(M2F4) my new gear ratio
1-3.285 1-3.307 1-3.307
2-1.807 2-1.950 2-1.950
3-1.193 3-1.360 3-1.360
4-0.903 4-1.071 4-1.071
5-0.685 5-0.871 5-0.685
final=4.062 final=4.266 final= I don't know lol!

2-1.950
3-1.360

Use the H series 4.266 final.... I believe that the f 5th gear is a TAD taller physically than the H22 fifth gear. I KNOW thw h23 5th is taller than the h22 m2f4 fifth...... I tried putting the f4 5th in a m2s4 and had a couple issues as it needed toi be shimmed and I didnt notice it before putting it together... LOL. That was a long time agoi, but anyways.... If your THAT concerned about it IDK, but DONT use the accord final. it WILL be gay

The FIFTH gear in my straightcuts is 1.03 :1... To be fair I run 26" tall tires... BUt it RIPS through the gears... I didnt turbo my car to have it be slower thasn need be, but to each their own. Good luck

Thank you for your exceptional expertise, nog. I've made the choice to go with the M2Y4 tranny for my turbo G23 accord. This kind of experience is what really matters in the car community, not some he-said, she-said conjecture.

M2Y4 and the P28A 5th is the best option. The 5th needs to be machined to fit in the stack. The P28A 5th gear part is long since discontinued. Any Prelude owner with half a brain did the swap at the beginning.

H22 don't reliably make 650whp anywhere I know, but I agree with most of what he is typing on ratio behavior. The trans stock can barely handle the factory output.

I have stated how weak the Honda 5 speeds are in many threads. I have a collection of broken ones in my garage..
