Default k20a or b18c type r swap

looking to swap my civic.i heard some owners are not satisfied there k20a,sluggish accelerating at start and mid range punch seem not to wake up and vtec sound is quiet and refined, that is what honda were going for.of course the k20a is faster than b18c.but overall they like the b18c better.

It totally comes down to what you want to do with your car. Show, track, hp figures etc. You can get good power out of K-series motors but depending on what you are doing you may not need all the power. Also, if it is for show then i would assume K-swap would net you more points. So firstly you need to think what your goals are and then see what motor will get to that goal for the best price.

First do more research.

You can't even really compare these motors. The B series would be great for cost effectiveness. And most K swaps, especially a k20R would be upwards of 10 grand.

It all boils down to what you want the end product. A 260 whp K track monster, or a daily 180 whp b series.. ect.

and finally, this thread is in the wrong section.

edit: Oh yea, it's an Honda, its not gonna make any low end power, and use the space bar.

between the two, power is not ,what im loooking for,i want the overall performance, like higher vtec kick in,better sound of vtec.the k20a don't have that,i mean better than b18,because honda made that engine purposely more for smooth, quiet, and refined running

you also have to but into thought about which k20 you are looking at. a K20a3 is nothing, it's slow, quiet, and has weak vtec(vtec only on intake side).

now the k20a2 and k20a type r will have the louder, more powerful vtec. Just some thought.

You've obviously never driven or ridden in a k-swapped Integra or Civic. The 'vtec kick in' with an aftermarket ecu like a hondata, will 'kick in a terd into ur pants'

and again, try that space bar thing.

Kpro does wonders for the k series. My friends EP3 was blahh when he first got it. But after kpro, that thing woke up! Also with my other friends rsx type s, It was violent.

Now imagine all that in a lighter bodied car=FUN!!!

I just completed my type R swap and it is plenty fast in a CRX. I considered the K-swap until I figured up the final build cost!!!!!!!!

I could have my R sleeved and boosted with the money I saved.

If you are converting to a K series, from a B. You are going to spend an easy $10K on the swap, doing it right. Unless its stolen ****.

Kseries all the way, screw the way it sounds!

I dont know if its just me or not but I am not putting 10K under the hood for the power a stock K makes. Its a cool engine but bang for the buck sux.

All I'm getting out of this is the want for loud vtec... just do some exhaust work, hollow cat, some 2.5 piping and an N1 or something.. Throw a intake on too. Then u will hear vtec.

Hands down the K20-k24 wins no questions. B series is very old, everyone including my grandmother has a B series honda. If you want any kindof fun and or props, K series is the only way.

If you aint got the cash, you better just stay stock.

Not even a K20A swap would cost $10,000. It'd be more like $7,500 - $8,000 for a K20A, and about $5,500 - $6,000 for a K20A2.

K20A is better.

The B-series is a great motor, but is very old.
