i have a question related with this.
would it be illegal to have a cluster with a different reading on its odometer and with the car?
we have smog test in my state (IL). any help would be awesome.
and for those who've done it, what did you do with it. i'm afraid of failing the smog and have my car an odometer fraud when i sell it..

it could be illegal with mileage discreptancy. just record the mileage of the motor and both clusters for your records. if you go to sell the car you need to point that out to the possible buyer.

your cluster doesnt affect any emissions at all or how the car runs. are you worried the cluster will fail you???

the reading on the odometer is what i'm worried like if they'll fail or fine me. don't they check the mileage if its right or its rolled back?
sorry, it'll be my first emission test maybe next year or this year thats why i'm not familiar with it.

havent been through it so i cant tell ya, but im sure they do record your mileage for their records. i highly doubt they will fail you because it doesnt hurt your emissions

You can let them know at the emissions test that your cluster reads wrong...I've done it about 1 million times.

I live in DuPage County.

Just remember what your original cluster mileage was and then add on the miles you've driven on your new cluster. They're not going to arrest you or anything.

They usually ask you the amount of miles anyway ...atleast at the RT.59 station. So just tell them a number. I've replaced clusters in my S13, my 90 hatch, my 93 hatch, and my 99 hatch.
