'93 EX 4dr - Interior Lighting Help, etc.
Okay, so I recently picked up a 1993 Honda Accord EX sedan. I'm now it's third owner and overall it's as wonderful of a car as I was told it would be.
I want to keep this car very, very stock.
There are only a few small problems / issues / concerns / questions I have about it. Most issues so far are little things, like it needing a cupholder, some other interior pieces and eventually a replacement muffler. The clip that holds the buckle in place on the driver's belt also fell off and I'm finding it horribly annoying.
Anyway... First, the radio. I have the stock cassette player. This type:

Now, it appears that only one to three lights are still working in it and they're just about dead center in the assembly, mostly lighting just the 2 and 5. I'm not looking forward to purchasing the other since parts aren't quite as insanely available as they are for the cars I'm used to working with.
Is there anyway to replace these lights or must I buy another radio? I really like the stock radio.
Okay, so the second thing is pretty small. Still dealing with interior illumination though.
Is the stock lighter supposed to have a light up section around it? I noticed it the other night in the car, but couldn't tell if it was white plastic or if it was supposed to light up at one point.
And the third question.
Having owned '97-'98 Civic coupes all my life, I've never had a power antenna before. The Accord has one though.
When I turn the car off the antenna retracts smoothly... until it's almost all the way down. Then it makes this horrible sound like it's gotten to the end of the spool and is just spinning or something. It's like a grinding sound, but the sound is the same every time.
What is wrong with my antenna and how can I fix it / is there a way to stop the grinding noise it's been making?
Thanks in advance for any help. Sorry for the book of a post.

*BUMP*
Any help is appreciated. Photos of working interior lights would be awesome.
I know I posted this way early in the morning, so it was probably missed by most.

1. The radio lights can probably be replaced by a radio repair shop.
2. Around the cigarette lighter, it should light up. See image related to your year. Also, I included this link for the 5th gen Accord (94-97) which is similar to your 4th gen Accord. The electrical connector may just be unplugged or the bulb is out.

3. You can try cleaning the antenna mast; but, it may need to be replaced (OEM or aftermarket).

If you want to get more blow up shots and part #s for the CB7s you can go to Majestic Automotive at

Most of those bulbs (and the cup holder) can be picked up from the junkyard fairly easily.

Does anyone know how easy the lighting is to replace though? What kind of lighting is it?
Now that I think of it, the ashtray isn't lighting either. Perhaps it's unplugged. The lighter itself works though. If it's like the 6G Civic, the light is different from the lighter power.
I don't know why I didn't think to look in the parts catalog. It might have something to do with that it was 3:30 in the morning.
Looks like the stock images in the catalog I have aren't so great for all the older models, like this one, anyway.
I stick to OEM parts, so if I replace it, it's going to be stock.

I'm not a noob, just new to this section.
Turns out the wire harness for the lighter/ashtray light (about 6 inches long) was partially bad. The lighter itself works, but not the lighting. I tried good bulbs first too and that didn't change anything.
But now the lighter is stuck in the dash. I have the ashtray and shifter trim removed and much of the harness removed, but the lighter is just stuck in the dash.

I don't really want to remove that entire black bezel that goes all around the cluster, around the climate control and radio and down to around the ashtray and lighter (a screw at the very bottom left refuses to come out anyway).
If the bezel has to come out, it looks like it might have to wait for another day since that screw refuses to budge.
Any advice?
Oh, and there is no metal trim around the back end of the lighter assembly that can be loosened up in order to allow me to pull the lighter out through the front of anything.

Hello,
To answer some of your questions
1. The cig lighter ring lights up. It has a replaceable light bulb but you must remove the cig lighter bezel or the whole trim piece (covering the radio etc) I would recommend removing the entire trim panel as the cig lighter bezel is brittle with age and will break with no force. Once you remove the trim panel, you will see the cig lighter back and the light which is mounted at 12 o clock on the lighter.
The cig bezel is press fitted onto the the trim panel it seems and is hard to remove intact. The bezel is mounted to the trim panel via two platic nibs at the 10 and 2 position on the bezel itself.
The good news with your wire harness problem is that that part of the harness is replaceable without cutting or splicing it. With the trim panel off, reach back into the place where the wires from the cig lighter go about 6-7 inches and you will find that it attaches to a connector, simply disconnect it and go to the junk yard and get a replacement. You must take the trim panel off no matter what to gain access to the wires
As for the radio, those tape deck radios go for a dime a dozen and you can pick it up for cheap at a pick and pull junk yard or on eBay
As for the antenna, you can try to replace the mast( it is replaceable) but the whole unit is crap to begin with. If I was you I would simply replace it with an aftermarket whip style as i just did with a friends 92 Accord as it is so much easier to deal with. It seemed that Honda decided to play a joke on all Accord buyers during 1990-93 from the lowest DX to the top of the line EX all models were stuck with that turkey of an antenna.
This might be why by the 6th Gen, the external antenna was phased out
Good luck

Thanks for the replies. Sorry, I had forgotten about this thread.
Here is an update:
A couple weeks ago I fixed a few things.
The cigarette lighter ended up being a replacement. The wire harness was bad on mine. I replaced the harness and lighter assembly and it works fine now.
The radio still doesn't light everywhere and the antenna is still going strong, just with a wind up at the end when it retracts.
