Default 06 rsx issues

Heres my story. Kid comes into my shop with an 06 rsx pulled apart with a blown motor and he wants it replaced. Not sure what happened but we take the job anyway. Well we couldnt find an 06 rsxs motor so the yard told us the 03 motor will work so we go ahead and get that and swap it in, moving over all the sensors and manifolds from the old motor. Well when it comes time to get it going the car runs like ****. It barely idles and bogs when free revving the motor. When you actually drive it it doesnt seem to bad but when its not under load its a complete pig. It idles all over the place and after a few starts of the motor it wont run for more than a few secs before completely killing itself. According to the modius its enabling fuel cut killing the motor no matter what i try to do to keep it running. Map sensor doesnt seem to move as much so we replaced it and its staying around the same. around 3.5 volts and 120 kpa. We adjusted the valves but it didnt help. the yard says we need to reprogram the ecu but the dealer says we do not. ANy ides?

The 05-06 ECU's are different than the 03-04 RSX ECU's. So I believe if you get a stock 03-04 ECU you should be fine.

In fact, I am almost certain that is your problem. You will need the new ECU and to get the immobilizer reprogrammed at the dealership.

yea seen this a lot, need the ecu from a 02-04, because the have different speed sensors and they are two different motors generation wise. im not sure but the cluster may also need to be swapped with the 02-04's, give a search around in clubrsx they have many people who post about the same issues of using different motor between the two platforms

You put a motor from an '03 into an '06 Type S?
I'm pretty sure putting an older motor in a newer car is actually illegal...if its the same or newer its ok but other than that...it's a NOGO!!!!

^^hold up now that you mention it simonEP3, im wondering what motor is the OP using, base or type-s, because you cant mismatch ecu's between the base and types which im guessing he doesnt know about, blown type-s and throw in a non-types motor, THAT would be a rip-off, and you have to match the 03 type-s to the PRB ECU or the 03 base(k20a3) with a PND-A0# ecu, now for the PND make sure it is A0(5spd) not A5(automatic)

alright so your going to need the PRB ECU, which is any from a type-s between 02-04, now your only problem you might have is the dash harness. you will either need to swap the dash harness and cluster or mess with the wiring, because the ecu pinouts are different from the 02-04 to 05-06 and the speed sensors differ between the two since vss took into affect in the 05-06.

this is just couple things i run into all the time on forums.clubrsx.com, so that my be your best bet to try so you get more of a understanding of what im and trying to explain

for you to be able to function properly and get the best out of this motor you myth want to get the 02-04 ecu because the 05-06 is a different story. motor wise and hp and all that. dealers dont know jack Sh%$.. trust me

Still an 06 trans. Swapping the harnesses and clusters isnt an option really. Im going to check into the ECU

Thanks!

tranny wise this is what i found on recently....

"i am not sure on the 02-04 the speed sensor is gear driven and on the 05-06 the speed sensor is magnetic pulse input so very different by all means but it will bolt up too that motor though"
