HELP NEEDED CD6 swap H22
Alright so i have a 97 cd6 accord and i want to swap in a 97-01 usdm h22 so it can be BAR-able but i heard that the obdII ecu's that comply with my 97 cd6(obdII) have immobilizers except for the ecu's in the 96 preludes(p16)?????i think. If i attain a 96 prelude's ecu and bring it to be bar'd i will likely not pass right? because of the whole thing with same year same engine w/ same ecu from engine blah blah blah, and when they hook the system up it wouldn't be able to read because of the car being a 97 and it has a 96 ecu in it. So am i out of luck with the h22 swap guys? any comments are appreciated!!!!
sounds like your in California you need a 97+ prelude ECU the same years as the motor it should be a P5M-L01 ,P5M-L04, P5M-L05 as P13 will fail unless you have a 96 4th gen motor as for the immobilizer just install it as it's only 4 more wires just when you buy the motor get the ECU immobilizer unit and ignition key from the same car take the black keyring from the prelude zip tie the key to it wire up the immobilizer tuck it next to the ECU problem solved! but if your **** like me take the keyring install it on your ignition lock take the key to honda or a locksmith tell them you want a key cut from your vin or your accord key and copy the chip from the key of the prelude presto you have a working immobilizer system that makes stealing your car harder!

the JDM H22a will fail visual years back the shop I worked at had 2 swaps with JDM motors B16a and one with a H22a the referee took 1 look at the motor and said no! just pick up a USDM H22a4 97+ with the ECU and you will be fine! that's what I have a 99 prelude motor complete with functioning immobilizer system ready to drop in. just have to build the wireing harness and OBD1-> OBD2 conversion.
I would think it would be the same for the state of California they use to let JDM motors with USDM ECU and emissions through, but have since said NO JDM motors as they do not have the same specs as the USDM model...but it's your car and if they say no then it's going to be fun pulling the motor back out and shelling more $$$ after the fact! we had to do this on 2 cars and it was not fun..
