Default Engine start up problem (Crank intermittently)

When i start the car by turning the ignition key, the cranking is kinda funny in this sequence "crank noise, crank noise, no noise for 1 sec, crank noise, crank noise" then engine roars. Sometimes the sequence repeated and stretch longer before before engine roar.

What could be the problem? Please help.

Check both battery connections to ensure they are tight and clean (free of corrosion). Use a voltmeter and check your battery voltage and or have your battery load tested at your local parts store. There are parts stores that will do a full battery test for free.

Thanks again! Will check on the voltage myself (nothin comes free the place where i stay) but what values should show up if battery is near death.

If it drops under 9v when your cranking/trying to start it that is a good sign that it's going south. If it jumps back up to 13-15.5v after it starts that means that your alternator is not the cause of the low battery. If it stays below 12v when the car is running then there is a problem with the charging circuit. (Alternator)

I just went through this with both of my cars. My SUV ended up begin the alt. and my Pontiac ended up begin the battery. The above test is a quick way to diagnose a charge and load problem. A true charge & load test machine would be the best though.

If your battery & charging system test OK. It could be that you are in need of a tune up. Start checking your distributor cap, rotor, plugs & wires for wear or contamination. Also check your air filter to make sure it's not dirty and restricting flow.
