Custom 8-point roll cage w/lots of pics
Maybe its just me but looks like the tubing could of been prepped a little better(cleaner), and the welds look on the cold side. Generally when using the tac-tac-tac method, you need to turn the heat up more than you would on a continous weld, to have the heat and penetration.
Other than that cant beat a cage for the cost of material

I dunno if that cage would pass track inspection with that mounting point 'box'. Why didn't he just mount the main hoop flush to the floor?
I mean the cage is pretty, and lots of it looks well thought out but I still see some major issues with it. I don't think you can double kink the forward bars either, but I'm sure somebody else will chime in with a quote from the rule book.
Just honest constructive criticism, that all.

I agree it needs to be a solid bead for maximum penetration. Otherwise the cage will break at the welds in a crash. I have seen this happen several times.
Holt **** dude, you entire cage is tack welded! Pull that **** out, seriously.
Oh yeah and the base boxes are terrible, as are your door bars. Tell your friend he made a good effort but needs to learn how to weld properly and than study chassis design for a while before he makes any more.

Love the diff in opinions in these post... One looking at the show side and the other practical.

I personally TIG weld all my cages but MIG is perfectly fine if done properly.

I don't want to give the impression that this technique is ok in a respectable off-road shop, however I see it so much in the offroad industry, and almost never in the "tarmac" industry
Well.....looks like you guys covered it already. No need for my usual a$$hole comments.
<----Thinks about downward forces on that "floating" box for the main hoop. Nice dog.

Just for the record guys, I don't feel bad at all. This isn't a 10 sec car, nor will it see track time on a very regular basis. I got more than I had bargained for and I'm happy with how it turned out. The fact that it doesn't meet your guys criteria does not hurt mine nor the fabricators feelings. Thanks for all your opinions, it is what makes Honda-Tech so special. Gonna go ahead and erase the thread before this turns into a pissing contest. I would however love to see some of your guys work, so we can better learn the proper way to make a roll cage.
