Default 94-97 Accord Gauge mounting options

Searched......

Ok so I guess I am the only one who dosent like the A-Pillar pods for gauges. If it were up to me I would probably not have any gauges inside the car at all, but I NEED boost and oil pressure gauges.

So I was wondering what my options are as far as gauges. I cant seem to find one of the dual pods that go around the gauge cluster. That would be **** but cant find it.

To I was wondering what some of you guys were doing for gauges.

If I cant find an alternative I will build a plate to mount them under my radio.

Andryzzle (I think) relocated his heater control ***** and places 2 gauges there. Said the gauges are perfect fit.

A few people have been asking about this so i figured id just throw this out there.
when you are done it should look something like this:

52mm gauges are an exact fit for the holes but i fit a 60mm in with a bit of modification (cutting the hole bigger with a drill) you can probably do it by just filing out the hole as well. a little dab of hot glue behind each gauge helps hold it in place also

1) take the dash out.

-Remove the plate from the bottom of the center console and remove the 2 screws.
-Remove the back of the center console.
-Remove the 2 (or 3) screws next to the shifter
-after these are out i believe the front of the center console pops out.
-unplug the clock, hazards, and rear window defrost buttons, radio, cigerette lighter, and anything else hindering you moving it out of the way. You can take off the shift boot and remove the front of the center console all the way out of the car.
-The black plastic thing isnt held in by any screws.. just things you need to pop out.

2) the hvac control unit
-the ***** are actually connected to the other set of buttons so you will need to unscrew the whole thing and cut the unit in half. there are no wires running through the middle of it so this wont damage anything.
-leave enough room for the gauges when you cut the box.
-screw the button box back into place

3) **** fitment
the ***** require some filing of the **** unit and you will need to cut the area behind the ashtray(?) that sits next to the cigerette lighter. you will no longer have this ashtray.

4) make it fit.
Honestly you can do this however you want.. i used hot glue to hold it in place.

5) wires
The wires for the ***** need to be extended. remove the tape from the wiring harness and pull them as far down as possible then cut and solder/butt connect as needed.

6) put it back together
what i said before.. in reverse

7) make it clean
i havent gotten to this step yet because i moved to atlanta for college. GT baby. anyway i have another one of these:

that i plan on cutting up to fit around the **** unit so it doesnt look as ugly. cutting and filing again.. self explanitory/ do what you like with it.

i thought it was a rare-ish DIY mod so...good luck.

Believe me. You're not the only one. I didn't want to do it, but my project had already taken so long that I just gave up and did the a-pillar so that it would be done with.

Oh and they don't have the gauge pod that holds the 2 gauges right behind the steering wheel in the cluster for 94-97 accords...if that's the one you're talking about. they make the frog eye styled one which i didn't like.

p.s. don't forget your air/fuel gauge.

Great initiative on the gauge setup...... but all that work and he used 2 mix matched gauges??!!??!! Different brand AND they are not even the same size for **** sake..

Also the larger one hangs over the edge into the vent... sorry but I am not feeling the placement of the ***** or the gauges.

Yeah the DIY wasnt done "perfect", but it looks good IMO.
lol @ different guages.
Some people are cheap on that type of stuff (or already had it laying around), who cares. Im sure if you did you would have same brand/size of guages and you would be happy thats all that matters. The dude who did the write even said it wasnt the greatest looking setup. But if you put a little bit more time and creativity into it im sure you could get better results.

agreed...

but i would much rather mount them under my radio or even above my radio since i have a single din radio. i am not knocking him for the idea if he likes it thats fine( he could have put a little more time and effort into it though, IMO).. all i am saying is i dont like it .. any part of it.
