Default question about intakes

96 accord ex

was wondering what i should invest in. what is the actual difference between cold airs and short rams and also ive noticed some aftermarket intakes go around the battery and are longer while others are shorter and require to move the battery to a different location in the car. i have no problem moving the battery but would it be better performance/sound wise to go for a shorter intake or a longer one?

As far as differences you will actually notice between the two, they are so minimal, there are not any. Short Ram: Shorter intake tube with the filter placed closer to the throttle body, louder engine noise, tend to take in hotter air from the engine bay (nothing to really worry about) Supposedly provide better low end response and torque. Cold Air: can be average length (filter behind headlight) or a true "cold air" with the filter placed lower (usually behind bumper) problem with these is you can easily take in water from a puddle or water being splashed onto your car, this will hydro-statically lock or seize the motor . If you get a "cold air" invest in a bypass valve (small in-tube foam baffle designed to absorb and evaporate moisture)

cool thank ya much just what i needed.

im also wondering if there are any intake manifolds, plenums, or throttle bodys that are interchangeable with my f22b1 parts. im perfectly capable of using a dremel to make parts match. just not sure on what can bolt up to what.

I've seen H22A throttle bodies installed with some modification, there are a few after market ones available. As far as I know there are no aftermarket manifolds available (skunk2 makes one for the H22 and B series). You best bet is the H22 throttle body and polishing the manifold, if your careful you can port and polish your intake ports on the head and match the intake manifold.
