Default Best engine for 86 crx si?

hey guys i'm in a bind, what would be the best or the easiest swap for my 86 crx? i have a 96 gsr motor fully built sitting in my living room, but my friend offered me a good amount of change for it and give me a stock integra ls motor or a b21 motor. so do i keep it or do i find another engine?

don't take the b21, its a prelude engine and is the bastard of the b-sereis family.

I vote d16a1

define what you mean by "best".. best for what? easiest is non vtec. most easiest is d16a1.. with a b series you aren't going to get away with spending less than about $1000 on mounts/linkage/axles/teg knuckles etc...

yea i would prefer easiest cause my 96 ex is in the shop already and i already handled that motor swap. so i need something quicker that can be done in a weekend or week, so i can drive it as an everyday vehicle.... cause the 96 will be finished then put on a trailer until summer. so do i have to swap the ecu, mounts, axles, harness, like going to a dohc if i go with the d series???

with the D series your best bet is to get an integra doner car. can be found everywhere. you'll need motor, trans, knuckles, axles, ecu..

Best? K24
Best that fits under the hood? K20A
Best that isn't so expensive? B16A
Best cheaper? D16A1
Best really cheap and lightest? D15A3 with side drafts.

What do you want to spend? What do you want your car to do? Is turning left/right important?
I prefer the stock engine, all it needs is some breathing help on the intake side of the head.

Having geared up, bought everything, prepped everything for a B series transplant, it's a lot of work, a lot of stuff and a lot of money. I lost interest and am in the process of selling it all off.

D15A3 will just drop in....wire it up and be done with it.

D16A1 (1st gen integra) is nearly a drop in. Use nothing more than the CRX and Ingegra mounts with a notch in either the timing cover or the mount. You use the integra tranny, axles and knuckles along with the ecu. 86/87 and there's no change at all. 88/89 and you need to do some wiring changes for the electronic advance. Well documented and not much drama. I drove a CRX with this swap and was underwhelmed. Not much of an upgrade from the D15.

B16/B18: GSR manifold will not work, so a nice way to go is B16 head/intake from a Civic SIR (B16A) which is what I did. Poor man's type R. You need a cable tranny with that. I did a DA one. There are some expensive parts for a rebuild, so just beware of that for the trans (I have $2k into my tranny including a new quaife....wanna buy it?). You need the swap mounts or build your own. I was able to get them but they went with my racecar rolling chassis. You have to think about all the systems...exhaust, linkage etc. Been done, however and a poor man's R would make this thing fly.

A lightened, koni'd, stiff springed, removed f sway, adj rear with kumhos and 7" wheels makes a CRX equal laptime wise to an E30 M3.
