weird radio problem
Hi my friend has a 98 accord lx and sound stopped coming from the radio. The radio is on so its kinda weird. He bought a new head unit cause he though that was the problem but still nothing. The wierd thing is there is power to the unit though, it turns on and everything. All speakers are connected. Could the pins on the harness that we got be mixed up, anybody know if there is a scan of the harness for this car online anywhere, I searched but couldn:t find one. Thanks
Chris

This site has the radio wiring for the harness plug:

if your buddy replaced the head unit with a aftermarket one why not just also buy a wiring harness adapter? i have seen numerous times where people do that and after time from upgrading head units for what ever reason the wires are so short the is no room to get to them any more. don't know why people do that it only cost a extra $5-$10 and you can get them at walmart
or worse case scenario you have a blown fuse. sometimes there can be a fuse under the hood that can also effect the stereo even though it is not directly for the stereo. which sounds like a good possibility since from the sounds of it the OEM deck was probably OK.
actually the oem deck stoped working as well, is there a fuse for the amp, (the amp is under the rear deck lid in the trunk right says tdk on it)? i'll check some of the other fuses. I checked the harness adapter, and the car side as well and all the speakers wires match up. there are some pins on the cars harness that dont plug into any wires from the deck side though, there is two grounds on the car side of the harness and only one from the radio. I want a real wiring diagram of the car damnit! lol
You don''t need another wiring diagram unlless you are sure that there is something shorted out somewhere. Look at the situation as a whole.
1. The factory head unit stopped working. I'm assuming that it still had power like the aftermarket but you had no sound.
2. You purchased an aftermarkket unit, and wiring harness and seem to still have the same issue.
3. This info here ^^^ tells me that the issue isn't in the pins on the harness adapter. First thing you should always do when running into issues such as these is check fuses. I once went a whole week in my 2001 Toyota Solara with no dash lights. None of my interior lights would work. I figured I had a short. When I finaly came to my senses I went through ALL (And I mean all because it may not be the one you think, or the one labled as such) and found two blown fuses. Neither had anything to do with my lights, not listed on the fuse cover, nor the Hanes manual, but when I replaced the one... Whataya know. It worked. Pop the hood and go through all of your fuses. If you have an amp in the back with all of your speakers wired through it then check that as well. Premium sound systems tend to have that setup. And do yourself a major favore and buy a fuse tester. $5 at Wal-Mart.
Oh and double check to make sure your buddy didn't replace a fuse and put the wrong AMP in. They should be as factory recomended never any smaller.

also forgot to mention that on some premium factory systems you cannot use aftermarket deck the OEM amp will not work with it you have to bypass it. did the factory stereo still have power when it stopped working. if so it is a bad fuse or the factory amp went out. most likely it would be a fuse of some sort even if it is not directly for the radio like stated before
