Default are hood pins safe?

i had a wreck on my drivers corner bumper several months ago, and since then i got all new front end parts (hood, fenders, bumper), and i had my front frame pulled back where it should be, but i have had trouble with my hood lining up with the latch, and my latch hole is about 1 inch off from where the latch spring goes in it.

so, lately, i have had straps holding it down, which i am getting tired of, and last sunday, the straps were'nt on good enough, and the wind caught under it, going 75mph on the freeway, and it slammed up against my window, shattering it, and i just pulled over safely, luckily was'nt hurt or did'nt wreck, so i got a new window the next day.

i am currently looking around for body shop estimates, but then instead of me trying to get the latch to line up, i had an idea of just putting hood pins instead.......................so, basically, i was just wondering how they attach, or are they safe? and do they hold the front of the hood down when going 90 mph? or not?

does anyone have a link of a picture of how a hood pin connects from under the hood to the top?, cause i have'nt seen the bottom side before.

any opinions would be cool

No pics, but they mount into your radiator core support. you have to drill and then srew them in. We put some on my friends Neon, wasn't too hard but we broke like 3 drill bits going through the hood. They hold great! At first we were having trouble getting the pins out they fit so damn tight. They held good up to 127mhp so 90 should not be a problem at all. The hood wasn't even bouncing or shaking at all. Just make sure you take your time and do it right. Cuz drilling through your hood is serious buisiness. Good Luck

hood pins are always safe as for me. hold down the hood perfect and it is good for someone with a lopsided hood cuz they can use hood pins to adjust it alittle.

All i had on my first car (78 fairmont) for holdin the hood down was the safety latch and a pair of hood pins and they held out through a lot of **** (Two frontal colisions) both crashes were on back roads one in a ditch and the other was after attempting a dukes of hazzard stunt (hey i got a new car out of it lol)

I just put in a set on my c/f hood, it wasnt hard at all. Here's a link of how to install them on a 4th gen civ.BTW in the headlight baskets there are already holes you can use! Go here http://www.superstreetonline.com then go to the "tech" section then go to "how to" the look over to right on the next page and it will say hood pin install.Have fun!

With no hood latch I would be worried about someone stealing my car. All they have to do is pop the hood pins......

thanks for the replies, and everything sounds good about hood pins, except when someone mentioned the fact (which i forgot about), that people can just take them off from the outside, and mess with your engine compartment, or take the hood off etc.....

so, now i don't know what to think............ , ................but..........now i am curious about what "hood locks" are??????, since you brought it up, do you have any more info on those? or a link?, i would really appreciate it

Check out http://www.jdmhondaparts.com under accessories - exterior, it show/explains them....basically the same as hood pins, but with a lock rather then a pin. Good for keeping the hood on and people out.
