89' Honda Civic.

Problem, Just today I came to a stop, and I noticed that the engine had died. Tried and tried but it would not start, waited about 5min, it started, I took off, but it didnt feel right, about 20 seconds later, after shifting gears, the engines rpm just dropped and even when I was flooring the gas, it didnt help, just dropped and dropped until it died again.

Bad clutch, alternator? Newer battery in the car.

can be a variety of things, check for fuel and spark for starters, also any cel codes?

 

I just got back from trying it again, after about 6 tries, the car started, and drove fine another 2 miles to my house, it idled ok and never stalled. I got home, turned it off, and tried to start it again and it started fine.

What the heck? No way im driving this until I figure wtf its doing.

and if u hit the gas does it just drop rpms?

 

No bogging on the trip back, I didnt go past third, but the rpms stayed consistent with what they should be.

I was reading that a bad fuel pump can whine when the car is initially started. After reading that, I can for certain say that about a 1/2 second after the car is started, I noticed that some days it made this weird sound that lasted maybe a second. Sounded kind of like those whistles you hear at kids parties, a kazoo I think?

 

check all ur vacum hoses
u might have a vacum leak.
.once u got to much air escaping somewhere ur rpms act retarted
and u bog..
you provably herd the wishtle outa vacum hose

 

Just wanted to update a bazillion years later that it was my distributor that was bad.

I like the final updates to finalize a thread. I was thinking it could you a distributor. The distributor is very important and often they do go bad.

 

Sounds like when my igniter went out on the freeway (car just cutout while driving). That is one of the main components inside the distributor.
