Some background. I have a 98 civic DX, with the original motor, standard.

Recently it has been acting very strange. it misfires randomly in 3 of the four cylinders. I know this because when I checked the CEL it flashes 73,71,and 74. when I am driving i cannot push the throttle down very far before it really starts to act up, spuddering and spitting and popping. there is hardly any power. I searched around, cleaned my injectors, changed my cap and rotor. still the same problems. It idles around 1000 and when it misfires drops a few hundred then picks back up. I bought a fuel filter for it and am going to check the pressure today.

There was no change to start this from happening that i am aware of, it started small, stopped, and started again and now it seems like its getting worse.

It is hard to start, usually takes a few cranks, and when its cold sometimes two tries.

Any leads or possible things I could check would be very helpful.

 

I cant really think of what may be causing it.

 

You should also check the plugs and plug wires and replace if necessary.

 

I bought new plugs, but i figured since it was happening in more than one cylinder.. will do that now actually thanks.

 

try replacing the plug wires, if theyre old they can be jumping to ground in the tubes in the valve cover and not making it to the actual spark plug.
