Default Best Amp Ground Location In A DC?????

hey guys i have a 95 Teggy and i'm currently installing an amp. my question is what is the best location to ground the negative power wire? my friends teggy still throws noise through the sub even after he turns the sub off at the headunit. its not a whinning noise, its more of a thumping noise as if the sub still wants to kick low freq sounds. he says its the ground. i dont wanna have the same problem. let me know where you guys ground your amps and if you have pics even better. thanks.

There is no "best spot", but if there is, it would be as close to the amplifier and as short as possible. Also make sure the ground is the same gauge as the power wire. Scrape the paint down to bare metal, sand paper or wire wheel works well, I prefer a nut and bolt vs. a screw, with a star washer to get a good bite in the metal. Also, use a ring terminal, not bare wire.

As far as the noise in your buddies system, sounds like a poor ground or faulty head unit, tell him to try grounding the outer RCA shield at the amp and see if that solves it.

You can use the seat bolt after you remove the paint.
The rumbling is the amp sort of "releasing" built up power through the sub. It is nothing to worry about.

wherever its kept short
you may have to remove paint if ground isnt working too good and ground should be same gauge or thicker than the power wire

seat bolt is the natural spot for un under seat install. it's short and easy to get at. like others have said. sand it and enjoy.

by seat bolt do you guys mean that 10mm screw that holds the seat down in the middle or the one kinda under the seat with the sheet metal shield that covers the rear ABS sensor plugs?

Its really better to sand down to metal and use your own bolt or self taping screw. Using a factory bolt may work good sometime but sometimes it will fail. You have to remember that the bolt was either factory welded and that could cause issues because of full contact. It will give problems on some cars.

Yup, what WRX said. Using a seat bolt is never a good practice. Best thing to do is to remove the paint off a part of the chassis and use atleast 2 self tap screws on the ground cable to prevent it from coming lose or coming off.

Self tapping screws are what will give you problems, have not used them in 25 years, the seat belt or seat bolts, or any bolt/stud that is in/on the floor pan of the car is best, as mentioned paint and dirt must be removed to bare metal, proper size, [gauge and stud size] ring terminal(s) need to be used, it is always best to ground amps at same locations, if possible. 94

stay away from grounding to the seatbelt area. in many cars its not the best place for a clean ground. its best to bolt directly to the chassis with a new nut and bolt.
