Thoughts fo an ITR owner
The recent up surge of ITR for sales promt me to share my thoughts to you ITRs owners (especially those that are "upgrading" to drifferent rides).
What drove you to own an ITR? Is it because it is a very fast car? A nice looking sport car? An exellent handling car? A very relliable car? A good gas milelage car?or is it because it is a very affordable car? Hold your breath for 10 seconds to think about it before you answere to those questions.
For me, the reason I came to own my ITR is because I answered "YES" to all the above questions. This is two years before I even own my ITR.
What about you? YOU CAN STOP HOLDING YOUR BREATH NOW.
More thoughts later.

A nice looking sport car? YES
An exellent handling car? YES
A very relliable car? YES
A good gas milelage car? not really, good enough for a sport car
Is it because it is a very fast car? don't know about that, fast enough for my daily use.

1. Used NSX was next on my list, but insurance, payments I realized are out of my league.
2. Reliable summer driven race car.
Hard to believe I go from a '94 GS-R to a '97 R. I really never thought I would spend another 5+ years in a G3 Teg.

- It was the only thing new, under $30,000 that I liked
- I wanted a honda that I could rack up the miles on and keep for a long time.
- In granturismo, I was driving a stock viper at lugena seca, and this little POS kept catching up to me as I left the turns. It was a ITR. (whatever)

You know what stoped me? I was scared of theft and vandalism

I knew very little about the car before I got it. I knew of the infamy of it, but I didnt know what really made it an R. Then one day I was driving to work, stopped at a gas station while in my del Sol, saw the R sitting at the car dealership next door, walked inside to the ATM, pulled out $400, walked over to the car dealership, and told them to hold it for me til the weekend.
1.) After reading about the C&D article about the '97 ITR, I was intrigued and wanted to drive one. I didn't know crap about "imports" or the "scene" (nor do I care for it now either). I used to be a Eurosnob. Hahaha.
2.) Seemed like a practical car. It's a 3 door so you can carry items around with relative ease.
3.) For the price, reasons #1 & 2, it seems like a great buy.
It sucks to only find out about the rampant thefts after getting the car. Bleargh.

I wanted a Miata.
I needed something I could put all my guitars and amps in (at the time I played through a Marshall half-stack), would get good milage, be utterly reliable, have reasonable insurance rates, and still be somewhat fun to drive.
I still want a Miata though.

I did not buy my R because it's fast. I bought it because I needed a reliable daily driver that did not needs much(read:any) modification to drive like I was accustomed to.
The first time i've ever driven an integra, let alone an R, was when I pulled #361 out of the dealerships showroom with 6mi on him. To put it lightly, I was very unimpressed with it, but I had just come from a 300hp prelude with over twice the torque. I knew the car was a total package, not just a dragster like I already have, so I decided to give it time and not judge it right away. Needless to say, keeping it under 5k for a while was not easy.
Well, that did not last long. I have acquired such an appreciation for this car, it's not easy to put into words. I live just to drive this car. I cannot believe how I have gone full circle in such little time(well, it has been a year). Before I was one of those haters, who thought an itr was just a fancy-schmancy integra. You can say i've seen the light.
I better cap it here, otherwise I will babble on all afternoon about how much I love my R. I have considered trading it in for something else, but after thinking of life without it, I quickly reconsider. I'm considering letting the wife drive it (she loves it) and get rid of her 00 jetta vr6 for an s2k. Then I will truly have the best of both worlds.

thats what I was thinking when i bought mine, actually I was looking for A Civic Si but none were avalible anymore and then looked for a GSR black on black 4dr but none were avalible either so I settled for the R, but did not want a black R but had no other choice except for PY. OH Well...
