replacing crank seal tomorrw .. check list

im replacin my crank seal on my y8 tomorw, just lookin for some advice on what to buy before i do it. suggestions?
some kinda grease i guess? but what

I think there is some kind of voodoo with regards to crank seals on this board, and you will probably not get a lot of help with it on here.
From my experience anyways.
I had to go to another forum for advice on this very difficult procedure.
I was told to use two drywall screws, turned into the seal, then grab with pliers and pull.
Problem with this is, you do not want to scratch the crank nose. And the part of the seal that is rubber is right up against the nose. Most of the seal surface is metal.
And the seal is really in there good.
Another way was to use a corkscrew...but that was a joke. Then a dental pick...but that bent REAL easy.
So, I ended up pulling the exhaust, oil pan, and then oil pump. Then it is easy to get to the seal.

yea i'm going to use a corkscrew to get it out
what im more concerned about is the type of lube i use on the new crank seal.. and where to lube it up

As I said, questions about crank seals is a bit devils triangle around here for some reason.

My Haynes manual shows putting the new seal on using some sort of blunt object, like a wooden hammer handle or something like that and lubing the seal and crank up with plain old grease. I didn't see anything about removing the old one
