Default overheating

05 honda accord lx 4dr 2.4L 4cyl

sitting in traffic check engine lite on. for a few days now.. car reaches the 'H' mark im like oh **** i dont even smell coolant or smoke/steam coming so im thinking oh yea probably the engine coolant temp. im finally going to buy the part tommorrow few quick questions

1. somebody mentioned to replace the gasket? what gasket? theres a little oring that comes with the sensor are you guys refering to that? or the gasket that goes into the radiator housing itself? does it come with the sensor or sold seperately?

2. engine coolant temp sensor circuit high. so theres an open in the sensor right? now if there was a short to ground in the sensor itself. would it say low circuit? and is it possible to get a low circuit or its typically high circuit failures? thanks guys

Have you check the sensor that controls the coolant fan?

Just check your coolant in the car. It may not be functioning properly.

That's a sure shot coolant problem..usually its the coolant which drains and the car overheats even on short drives...can really damage the engine life..
