Default Removing underhood heat blanket ??

Personally, I think it looks like crap and was thinking about removing. I don't see any reason why I couldn't honestly. Has anyone done this or would recommend me not doing this?

Honda had extra head blankets and was just putting them on every car and they didnt put it on for any reason at all. The extra heat getting to your hood wont make it fade faster or any thing.

i think it's also there as a precaution against engine fire. The heat from a fire melts the plastic clips and the whole thing drops on to the fire and smothers it.
least that's what my friend told me....

^^^that seems very logical seeing how it seems to be made of same material as a fire blanket.

it wouldnt smother the fire cause there would still be airn coming in from under the car i do think its flame retardent + it protects the hood from the heat + its a sound barier.

not quite true - i think (because fire always goes up), that material heats and warps to cover the shape of the engine so even though there is air under the engine, it can't get any airflow to feed the fire.
Least that's what my friend told me...

Actually it's to prevent the paint on the hood from cracking from the excess heat. It keeps the hood a few degrees cooler. If you've ever owned a honda for more than a couple years (especially a black one), you know how crappy their paint is.

The upside is what? just looking better, how often are you showing off your monster of an engine?
If you think that you know better than highly paid Honda engineers who spent years and millions of dollars designing the car then go right ahead.

... except that they are designing a car for millions of people while I'm setting mine up for just me. They have slightly different targets.

If honda had designed everything the best it could be and everything was perfect....... I dont think we would have this site becouse nothing would ever go wrong with the cars and there would be no reason to make any changes to them at all. There would be no reason for the after market. hhhhmmm boring and impossible.

honda is a company, like all companies it is designed to make money. Putting heat blankets on hundreds of thousands of cars for no reason is not going to help make a profit. If it is there, there is a reason for it. but then again removing it would be uber jdm!

I removed mine last year. No problems yet....
It looks better, but I notice a little more sound from the engine.
