Default 91 dx with d16z6

in the process of putting a d16z6 in my 91 crx dx. one of my concerns is the alteranator belt. the d15b2 belt on the d16z6 belt is too tight and theres no room for adjustments. im usuing the d15b2 alt. so i cant use the d16z6 belt because the alt has a 3 rib pulley. my question is can i use the crank pulley off of the d15b2 on the d16z6? and if i do will it mess me up when i go to set the timing and will it give me enough slack?

I think the better route would be to just use the D16Z6 alt.

I don't see any reason why you can't swap these crank pulleys.
Since you have both crank pulleys you can check them against each other for timing. You will be looking at the woodruff keyway inside the pulley in reference to the timing tick marks.
If the motor is out of the car still then you can test fit both pulleys on the crank (with woodruff key in place) and ensure the timing marks are in the same place.

thanks for the quick reply.
i would use the d16z6 alt but the motor didnt come with one. i was told u could use the d15b2 alt and belt but no dice. so i think im just going to try the d15b2 crank pulley and see what happens. im not sure what to be looking for when comparing the two pulleys but im assuming that the d15b2 pulley will be a bit smaller. the only thing that worries me is setting the timing correctly.

Timing itself won't be affected because the cam/crank timing is set with the timing belt.
What can be affected is the way you set the ignition timing.

The crank pulley slides onto the crank shaft and is held on with a bolt. The pulley and the crank shaft both have a notch cut into them that hold a woodruff key. This ensures that the pulley is held in a specific position when it's installed. The serves two purposes. It keeps the pulley from spinning freely on the crank so it can spin the accessory belts. Second, the crank pulley has tick marks on it used for setting ignition timing. If the marks are NOT in the same place in relation to the woodruff keyway, then the setting the igntion timing will be full of FAIL.

Go to the auto parts store with your short belt and ask for a longer one. The number on the belt package has a measurement in it, the counter guy should be able to do that for you. Or have him look up the stock belt and go from there.

Just get a longer belt.

Crank pulleys are a pain plus the z6 crank pulley has the rubber damper built-in on the backside.

Some if not all d15b2 pulleys don't have the built-in rubber damper(not positive if all of them don't have it but none of mine do).
