Default AMP In & Out of Protection Mode at No Particular Time....

Hey there... I have a Profile amp with a Bazooka RSW1224 sub. Nothing too extravagant but pleases me. I have had this setup in my car for roughly 4 years now with hundreds of hours of play on it with not one single issue until just recently. I was driving down the road with the music on low because my father was in the car. When I got home I went to turn it up and the sub was not going. It had been going fine just before I picked up my father so sometime during the drive home it cut out. So I went to the trunk and everything was all hooked up but the amp was in protection mode. So I turned everything off and back on, amp turns on but goes straight into protection mode. So I turned everything off again, unplugged the RCA's and sub from the amp, turn on the system. Fires right up and stays on with no issues. Next I hooked the RCA's and Sub back up and turned the stereo back on. Fired right up like nothing had happened. I can do this time after time and it will play but will eventually go back into protection mode at just random times (music could be very low or super loud, just goes out randomly). Sometimes it'll play for 2 hrs into a drive, sometimes only 10 minutes. Couple other things I tried were only unplugging the RCAs (leaving the sub connected) and only uplugging the sub (leaving the RCA's connected). When I leave the sub connected with the RCAs disconnected, the sub 9 times out of 10 will pop and the amp will go into protection. When I unplug the sub with the RCAs still connected, the amp will turn on and stay on maybe half the time, going into protection mode immediately the other half. My guess would be the RCA's but the amp/sub like I said sometimes will turn on and play for some time when I have unhooked both the RCAs and Sub? It's almost like unplugging the RCA's and Sub, turning the system on and off, then plugging the RCA's and Sub back in and starting the stereo again is like a reset switch lol. Anyone have anything to try?

is ur rca jack on the amp loose? that could be the problem, and if you keep taking it in and out, you can damage the solderings of the rca jack input, :S

The problem is the protection circuit in the amp itself, it is too random and intermittent for it to be a sub or RCA problem.

One other possibility is a bad fuse, if the fuse is the AGU type, [big glass fuse] replace it, even if it looks good.

I assume you have checked the power and ground connections. 94

I haven't noticed them being loose at all. Yea for that reason I just left it unhooked and came here for a possible solution. Would that cause the amp to go into protection mode though? The RCA's have taken some pretty narly hits while being connected, the soldering internally may have lost contact? I have tried multiple grounds to try ruling that out. I believe it uses the AGU style fuse, I can't remember after installing so many systems for my friends what I have in mine. If it is, I'll go swoop up a new fuse tomorrow and give that a shot. If that fails, you think the AMP is shot? I'm no magician with a soldering iron but I can hold my own as I have chipped ECU's and stuff like that. Would that be a component inside?

It's wired into a 2ohm load, I have had this setup running flawlessly for rougly 4-5 years now with it being untouched that is where I am stumped.. It has been a couple days but I checked the fuse, its not the AGU style... I am running two amps, one mono for the sub and a 4 channel for the speakers inside. The other amp has an AGU style fuse but that amp is working fine. I tried hooking the amp up to other devices to see if I could get it to work but no dice... I'm starting to figure that the amp may have just went Kaput but... would anyone have any guesses why it would just go out like this?

One other thing is that your sub maybe ready to retire. Meter the sub and move the cone and see what happens it maybe a voice coil in the sub that have been broken and neg and pos is touching and may cause amp to go into protection. Try a buddy's sub on your amp and see if it does the same thing I think that should tell you if it is your amp or not.

Well, I tried another Sub out and it did the same thing so I came to the conclusion of it being the amp. I purchased a new amp, tossed it in, and so far so good. Playing like a champ again! My amp that I was having problems with was having troubles staying on for any amount of time at the point of removal. So as far as I know, its back in business! Thanks everyone for your help!

Check the power and ground wires; maybe they are loose or corroded. If you can, swap amps, that will tell you if the amp is the issue.
