Default Randomly cutting off

Ive got a 95 honda civic dx 1.5 auto. Mostly stock minus I/E/UDP. I just done a full tune up a few thousand miles ago.

Heres the problem:
About a week ago I was about to leave school. I cranked the car and about 3 seconds later it just cut off. I started it back up and it ran fine up until today. I started the car to leave work and it immediately cut off. So I started it back up and it idled fine. So I pull off and a few miles down the road I come to a stop sign. When I reach a complete stop it cut off. So i put it in park and started it again and it ran good all the way home.

Does anyone know what could be causing the car to do this? It hardly ever does it and the few times it did, the car was cold.

As a side note, the car idles a little iraddicatly at times. Not bad just drops down a little for 10 15 seconds or so then idles back up....and repeats.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You might want to clean the IACV on the throttle body.

Is the CEL ON?

It doesnt come on upon startup. Sometimes it doesnt come on at all but if it does, its a couple miles down the road.

And I will try cleaning the IAC. If that doesnt help maybe it needs to be replaced?

Try to retrieve a CEL code from the ECU (see forum CEL sticky).

Try cleaning the IACV first. Before replacing, you should try some electrical troubleshooting.

I thought about the FITV, but the OP's information suggests that a hot engine also stalls. If the engine only stalled when cold, I would definitely consider the FITV. Who knows, both the IACV and FITV could be acting up.

Well the slight idle problem is always there. But the stalling is only when cold.

This is the statement that led me to believe that the engine also stalls when it is hot.

Thats wierd. Most dying crank sensors I have experienced didnt act like that.
Today when I get home I'm going to completely clean the IAC and FITV. Then go from there.
Im at school now. I drove the car here this morning and its been running great so far.

Other candidates are the main relay (like booboo wrote), ignition switch, and coil, in order of most likely to least likely, based on my experience. It could be any one of these. http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/faq.html#startrun can help with checking these.
Wow,....what is an igniter??
The main relay...nope, cross that out too.
Ignition switch? Nope that functions as it should.
Theres no way its the coil.

Thats everyone for the help. Im going to do some further diagnosis tomorrow.

Sounds similar to my friends' stock civic. Turned out to be a distributor sensor. You should really try and get a code for that CEL. I believe the ECU stores codes even if the light isn't currently on.
