Default temperature sensor

is it okay if i wet the sensor that is next to the one wire sensor that is located on the head on the dizzy side?

i'm planning on cutting it off, wetting it down, and re-wiring it back up.

all kinds of oil got into it and it makes my car temperature gauge in the cluster go crazy and makes it think its overheating when its actually fine.

but of course before i put it back on, i'm going to let it dry up.

so i used electrical parts cleaner.
it worked.

it only shot up one time though when i turned it to the on position but as soon as i cranked it over it went back down to the middle...
.kind of random,
hopefully it stays where its supposed to be at.

The 1-wire not 2-wire sensor under the distributor sends the temp signal to the gauge.

The oily one sends coolant temp signals to the ECU but has nothing to do with the dash gauge temp reading. If the dash gauge is your problem, disconnect the 1-wire sensor, clean if necessary, and reconnect tightly.

Probably a coincidence.

wait.... like you said, the 2 wire one tells the ecu the temperature of the coolant.

if the 2 wire one is oily, its going to think its way hotter than what it is.

therefore, the one wire one is going to display your car is on fire.

sorry if that makes no sense.
it made sense to me.

The 1-wire and 2-wire sensors are indepedent, that is they don't talk to each other.
