first time D series owner help!!
ok so im buying a 1998 honda civic dx hatch in great condtion with low miles. now it has ofcourse the d16y7 and i have a few questions for you d-series gurus.
*when doing the Y8 head swap is there a plug on the block that i have to unplug to get oil pressure to the vtec oil pressure switch?
*like a ls-vtec do i have to find a place to put a knock sensor or is it on the Y8 head?
*Can i use a head and intake manifold off of a automatic and then find a ecu for a manual?
*Rywire makes a vtec install kit for the mini me swap to make it plug and play and all i do is pin it in the ecu. would that be a good choice?
* and any other tips for owning a d-series

im fully aware that the engine is under powered and that a b-series will be faster but i have an integra and want to have somthing diffrent.
thats what i thought but does anyone know if the knock sensor is on the head or do i have to find a spot to put it on the block.
there is no such thing as an "auto head". a head is a head. nothing different from a "manual" head. a motor is a motor. NOTHING different from auto and manual

thnka you i was just wondering cause on 90-93 integra if it was an auto it had egr so the intake manifold was diffrent. thank you
hey to the origanil poster....i hade the y7 and i put a y8 head on it and it is pretty much the same thing as doing an ls with gsr head so just to let you know go to www.d-series.org they can help you with the d series like no other can lol.....i had my y8 boosted and yank alot of people but then i switch to a b18 and was way happier with that lol
but i cant hate on d series cause i hade one and i sorta miss it lol...you can make a d series fast as shot but u can put the same amount of mny into a b18 and make more power hahaha
dont listen to these doubters, you can make a D16 plenty quick.............understanding what components it needs and why it needs them is most of the battle.
to lileghatch: the reason a B18 makes more power is its larger displacement and has a huge advantage since it has 2 cams running 16V instead of 1. same idea applies to a 350ci V8. more displacement means more potential for power. BUT there is PLENTY of potential in the D16.
ive asked this before and i really wish someone could explain to me the general idea that D series is HUGELY inferior to B series. anyone have any input on that?

lol its cool.....full gsr disc brake conversion..skunk2 strut towers and coil overs..skunk2 traction bars,skunk2 swaybar, fozus lightweight control arms, camber kit, stainless brake lines, four point roll cage in back, hasport mounts and i wont tell what i have under the hood you will have to private message me cause i dnt want anyone to know my secrects hahahaha.....does that answer your question broski lol
the d16 is great for dd and the fact that i love how u can smash on a d16 all day and silll get good mileage, if u want extra power i would add d16a1 pistion,d16y8 IM, and d16y8 tranny. best bang for your buck. gl
wow thanks every one for all the replys. i already new about useing d16A1 pistens from a gen 1 integra matched up with the y8 head, after that i think it would be a pretty quick car. maybe it could keep up wit my friends 91 b16 hatch we just did. most likely he will leave me in the dust. haha who cares i have AC!!
