There is really nothing to gain for surfacing the head down on a stock LS. You will just end up having to buy adjustable cam gears to get the timing right.

Any time I have a head off of an engine I get it surfaced, just enough to get it perfect again.

so i shaved it anyway i took 20 thousands off... my boss did some caculations and he came up with a half a point of compression and a 3% to 5% horse power gain ...

the gain is only going to be found with tunning and adj cam gears
but it will raise compression
