Ok I just bought a 91 Crx. I dont know a ton about honda's because im a Lexus tech. Sorry....but anyway...I know how things work. I want to add some power. Low cost but im not a tight A$$ and relatively easy. I dont want to have to rely on my honda buddies for help all the time. I know about a bseries swap. I just want all the possible ways I could go to get power so that I can research before I decide. Im not new to forums so I hope this will yeild me some answers!
Thanks all
Thanks all
yeah b series is one way to go pretty easy to swap in cheap depending on witch b series you go with. i think the b16 is the most popular motor for ef's so if you want to stand out do a b16b or b18c but it all depends on how deep you want to dig in your pockets but for cheap you can go with an ls for like 700 for the motor from hmotorsonline.com

Ok...im BACK. Didint want to start a new thread...made no sense...when I had this one from the last purchase. So now i have a 90 ef hatchback. Pics next, and i got it off a buddy for $250 with the motor already pulled. Tranny is still there. I bought it with the intentions of making it my DD/ fun car as I want to keep the miles off my lexus! So maybe stock motor low boost rebuilt motor obviously, or B18 swap stock motor rebuild with option down the road to turbo, or what else is left? Im also gonna search up on the multi port to normal fuel injectiion re-wire cause I know ima have to do that. Does anyone have any input on the route I should go. Im looking for ***Cost effictive/ low budget*** Im not looking to put 2k$ in this car to beat on it everyday driving 50 miles. So with that being said someone please point me in the best direction.
Well, if you're going to beat on it, and put that many miles on it, maybe a D series is the best option for you. With a D15 or D16 you can get like 35mpg and push 5-10psi boost. It'd get up and go, and prolly wouldn't cost a lot.
You are in MD. - check w/this guy (he's close to Philly) as he has
lots of Civic/CRX parts - I got my Wilwoods (for my 91 CRX) from him for dirt cheap.

Yah - a boosted "D" (turbo'ed or not) is the way to go for a DD.

Thanks....preciate the info. Gonna look into that in a moment before I leave out. I plan to have this car done in 4 weeks. Maybe even paint too
Here my Lexus gs300 Soon to be turbo 2jz-gte ( In feb or so )
Note: Im a mechanic and I painted my Lexy with Ruestoluem paint ( sprayed) and it was only my second paint job...first was a rattle can job. Clear coat will go on once the civic is done. The paint job was done in august or so.

Anyone have a preference on which D motor to get? And im trying to include the ease of the instal i.e. V-tec vs. none-v tec motor. I was looking into the d15b2.Im not sure yet...still reading though...thanks again.
d16a6 will drop right in it and arent very hard to find but it is a non vtec. D16z6 would be a nice motor as well but it is vtec and OBD1 where as your car is OBD0 so you would have to do the conversion. If you really want a fun and peppy little dd why not just drop in a 1.8l ls motor from an integra, they are very easy around us to find and are cheap. I put a sohc zc (jdm d16a6) in my crx this summer and i am already thinking about putting an h22a swap that i have in my garage in it. The d series gets good mileage and is very reliable and cheap but if I were you i would save a couple more bucks and opt for a bigger more aggressive swap like a b18, b20. I wouldnt go k series unless you want to drop some serious cash, time and aggravation.
But bottom line, its your car, your money, your time, blood sweat and tears so you make the call. But id say go for a b18 :-)

I bought this motor for$200 it needs a few things that are missing like the coolant peices on the block and i think some other things. If yall see something im missing let me know
Alsothere a big sensor on the back of the Intake manifold missing...???
T-belt and water pump are fresh and this motor is pretty clean inside. Now just gotta clean the outside.

So now i'll be looking to buy crank pulley, accesories like alt and starter and ps pump, all pulleys, the wire harness, and ecu. PLus the other stuff mentioned before. I gotta sell these rims so maybe after the holiday i'll have the money needed to get what I need to get the motor in the car. Also need a clutch kit.

Anyone know which harness I should use for the d16z6? The engine harness that connects to the shock tower is gone and from reading ive not gotten a clear answer. Stock dx harness or d16z6 ( del sol, civic) harness.

And the 2 spaces above the oil filter. Are they oil psi sensors and knock sensor? I saw them on a newer d series motor but it wasnt vtec.

Ohhh right. Someone told me the coolant temp sensor was relocated. Guess I can just fill it anway and put a gauge on it or leave it blocked off. Thanks for the info.
the fan switch is relocated to the thermostat housing on 92+ D-series motors. the 96-00 D-series DO have a knock sensor. on the back of the block you will have the knock sensor closer to the top of block just below the center of the intake manifold, and the oil pressure switch will be a single wire sensor located close to the oil filter.
