Hydrolocked motor, need help with head removal.
Hey guys whats up?
Hopefully some of yall can help me out. I ran through some water the other night and hydro locked the motor. It still runs but knocks bad enough that I cant even stand to let it run for more than a sec. So I took a look around the block and found that it is split in at least one spot that I can see. So needless to say I need a new block.
Well I want to pull the head off to check and see if its damaged. I have the instructions from the service manual and it looks a little out of my comfort zone but my mech wont be able to even look at it for at least a week. I have nothing but time on my hands and not alot of money so I'm thinking about pulling the head of so at least I can know if its still good so I can go ahead and order the block.
So for all of you who have experiance with something like this- Can you give me some tips or tricks? And how hard is it? Thanks!
ohh and its a H22A in a 94 SI.

- Remove the Valve Cover
- Remove the Cam Plates, Caps, Cams (Bolts, A lot, lol)
- Remove the Head Studs (10 Bolts)
Pull off.
Oh and everything else that's connected... Forgot about that... Exhaust, Intake, Coolant, etc...
you dont NEED to remove the intake manifold. Just make sure that the support bracket that goes from the back of the block to the bottom of the intake mani is free.
Ok guys thanks for the input. I started tearing into and now I have a Q
I cant get the "maintenance bolt" loose. Its the bolt that has a cotter pin on it and does something with the auto tensioner. Ohh yeah and I have the "up" arrows on the cam gears pointed up. Is that correct for TDC on cyl 1? If someone can help please let me know.

Ok so who can explain to me what the "maintenance bolt" that is used to lock the autotensioner or something like that. The service manual says to unscrew it before removing the head. Only problem is I cant get it to budge. I think it just geeps the timing components locked in place so they dont move. If this is the case it really doesnt matter since my blcok is blown anyway, right?
Can someone that has done this before help me out?
