Default Turbo diesel?

What kind of turbos came on turbo'd cars with diesels? IE Mercedes, Volvo(?), etc... Would I be able to use one of them on a 87 CRX? What trim, type, brand are they?

Diesel application turbos are not going to be the best choice.

Consider these points:
~diesel engines have much slower operating speeds than gas engines
~diesel engines use higher boost to help with self-ignition, perhaps too high too soon for a gas application.
~I'd only try it if you knew exaclt what the wheel specs were and verified if it would work for you, before buying one.
~there are very few turbo diesel passenger cars in the US, so you will find more larger displacement trucks than anything else.

But who knows? Anything is possible...

turbos that come off of turbo diesel vehicles always have very small compressor housings due to the information listed above. this is exactly the opposite of what a high reving 4cylinder engine needs. why do you think we use hybrid turbos?

modern VW Turbodiesel using variable wheel trims and have no wastegates, but this is only possible on a Diesel engine, cause the exhaust temps are lower.

Thanks, that was exactly what I was getting at.

Just because there are no production VGT turbos on gasoline engines yet does not mean it is imposible. Remember the VNT Daytona Shelby (even though they were a cluster funk)? It is true that the difference between diesel and gasoline does pose some implications.
I have a secrect............it is comming.

So I wouldn't be able to find any decent (for 4cyl) turbos on a turbodiesel? I figured it was pointless but what's the harm in asking?
