Symptoms of failed oil pump?
I have a poor man's type R setup consisting of Toda B's, Endyn pistons, etc.
This is what happened....
On the highway, I was in and around 100-120 mph for a few minutes. Upon getting to a street light at the offramp, I noticed my oil light was on, but only at idle. Every time I revved a bit, it would disappear, but would reappear at idle. It would come and go.
A week or so later, again doing somewhat high speeds on the highway, VTEC completely cutout in addition to a now constant oi light at idle. I assumed oil pressure was down so did an oil change, but still no VTEC. Also, while revving up a bit, there seems to be a slight "metal to metal" sound.
Are these possible symptoms of a failed oil pump?
The car still idles fine though it stalls every so often. The car is now parked until I find out what the problem is.
Once again....
1. oil light at idle that disappears at higher RPMs
2. no VTEC
3. metal to metal sound at higher RPMs
4. car stalls at idle quite frequently
Not that I have one as of yet, but what does a TODA oil pump gear do to reduce oil pump failure?

What does a TODA oil pump gear do to help out with failure?
I would certainly make sure that was installed correctly and is functioning.
Also for the love of Honda... STOP DRIVING IT!
You do realize that when the oil light is on, you have <3psi of oil pressure right?
Just by idling the car with that little oil you are damaging the engine.

allmotorhonda: Two things come to mind.
1. The oil pressure bypass valve in the oil pump is stuck open. Not very likely though.
2. You have a bad bearing. Cam, rod or main.

My guess is the oil pump gave out. My advise if your constant ly beating on your car, go with a Oil pump gear, like toda or prodrive, and oil pressure guage so this type of thing won't happen again.......
