D2's w/ lcas vs pic lowering full strut w/ lowering springs/or pic 8 way adjustables

 

PIC's. I'd still pick something other than EITHER of those.

 

which PIC's and what would you pick?

 

If I had to choose PIC, I'd get the Selects.

If I could choose anything else, Tein SS on the low end, Zeal or KW Variant II on the high end.

 

whats wrong w/ d2 36 ways w/ full damper etc and lcas? and how much would your idea run me $$$ wise?

Variant II's with new LCA's would probably be in the $1600 range.

 

Can I ask why you would suggest a coilover set up with only height adjustment (kw) over a setup that allows you to set spring preload as well as ride height (PIC/D2)?

I've heard and seen nothing but good things so far with the PIC's. The big advantage to me for the PIC's or D2's is the ability to adjust the ride height independently of shock piston travel.

I have a GC/Koni yellow set up and if I was to change tomorrow it would be with PIC selects.

I'm not saying that the kw's are a bad product, they work great and would most likely do a great job, but for me a set up that has both adjustments is a better deal.

 

Only Variant I's have no damepning adjustment.

 

Yeah what he said. I bought the Buddy club N+ and a friend bought the KW variant II, i honestly wish i would have saved up for the varients, they ride much smoother and perform better.

 

^^ no I'm not talking about the damping adjustment, I'm talking about the ability to adjust the spring preload as well as ride height and damping. Take the PIC selects for example, they allow you to set up the car so that when the ride height is changed, the shock travel isn't compromised. With the kw, when you raise and lower the car it changes the amount the shock can travel. The variant II, D2's and PIC selects all have damping adjustments.

 

^i never thought about the preload. You put up a good point. I've never heard any bad about PIC though, But with D2, i heard they are built by the same company as ksport, function and form, etc. they are known to leak/blow out in my area.

 

^ well to me the preload is great that it's adjustable but for 99% of the set ups it should just be snug to the point that when the shock is fully extended the spring is still just barely under compression so it will never come unloaded and rattle around. Whats a better feature is that you can adjust the ride height by adjusting the collar on the bottom of the shock body to adjust height without touching the shock travel so no matter how low or high the cars ride height is the shock is always set up to travel at the proper distance the manufacture designed it for. Once you get into really competitive racing then the preload can be adjusted and advantages gained, but it in no way hurts the performance of the coilover set up. These adjustments just make perfect sense to me.

I wouldn't be surprised if the D2's, FanD and the ksports are all made by the same company. I haven't done any research on those, but I do know of some guys that run the PIC's and have seen the PIC's upclose. I installed a set on a friends car with great results.

I would highly suggest looking into the PIC's more and even contacting the guys at PIC, I was lucky enough to meet them last year at a car meet and they seemed like great guys. Also they are the only off the shelf coilover brand I know of that re-valve their shocks depending on the spring rate of the spring.

I think they're worth a hard look. They would be my choice.

 

^ yeah, once i'm sick of my buddy clubs, i'll look into PIC. My buddy clubs i can adjust the preload but i'm not too sure what good it'll do for me since i'm still learning about all the suspension stuff.

I would choose PIC Selects over Tein SS's any day of the week.

 

Why would you want to do this? Yes they make quality product, and yes they work well and were the cat's *** when they came out in like 2000, technology and products have evolved and full body coilover offers more value for money in my books.

well i have a buddy w/ a 4 door civic w/ PIC and they are really awesome i was really just wondering about D2's but from what i have heard i think my mind is made up you think PIC will make a deal for a group buy say if i bought 3 sets...

 

PIC select is very well made. I use them on my track integra.

 

are they a little much for a DD?

 

Depends on spring rate, my 10/8 are perfect on the street.

 

I've had D2's for over 3 years with no issues as leaking or anything, and i auto cross the car as well as driving 60k miles in 2 1/2 years. I have a friend with PICs and he loves them and they handle great in autox as well. I would have no qualms getting either set. I think the KW's are overkill for what this guy wants Jason. For the price you can't beat D2s.
