erratic on my rhd h2b crx. tried everything need a second opinion
ok heres the deal! i have the erratic idle issue on my 88 crx. i've searched and searched and found useful info. but none of it has worked so my last rersort is to make this thread. i dont like it, but maybe someone can help me out!
specs:
-h2b swap
-iab plate removed
-converted to obd1 with boomslang ecu jumper and repinned dizzy plug
-chipped ecu. also have oem p13 ecu and it doesnt help.
-o2 sensor is the only c.e.l. that is thrown
-not running a pcv valve or ANY emissions equipment. all vacuums on the manifold have been plugged off.
-thermal 70mm ebay tb gasket and hondata im gasket.
-skunk2 70mm tb so fitv has been deleted
now i've:
-checked every vacuum hose attached to the manifold for leaks and they all passed
-checked timing. its dead on. (i havent checked igniton timing due to erratic idle which is my issue)
-checked o ring on brake master cylinder. its still good and i can hear an audible "swoosh" of vacuum pressure leaving when i pull the cylinder off
-calibrated tps and it reads .49 at closed throttle and 4.8 at wot
-bled coolant by opening rad cap and running engine
-checked gasket between the two pieces of the intake manifold. and it had no brakes or cracks and still looks good.
-cleaned iat sensor. even though i didnt think it had anything to do with it
-also cleaned out the eacv with brake cleaner and its spotless now. at the same time i removed the upper piece of the manifold and cleaned out all vacuum ports. and gasket surfaces.
-checked all rubber o rings on anything attached to the intake mani. like the ones on the eacv for example.
this is a horrible problem. if the engine rpm are under 3k than its not drivable. it just bogs and dies. if ANYONE has any idea's i"d be all ears! i need to get this car to the alignment shop soon. thanks dudes

Depending on the program on the ECU, you may not need an O2 after the tune. I have eCtune on my H22 and just took out the sensor after it was dyno tuned. You will still need a hole so a wideband can be plugged in for tuning.
Yeah that's another option. I'm just tuning with a ecu chip. I'll talk with the tuner when I see him. Still have to make a trip to the exhaust shop today before I go
To me it sounds like you have a leak or your idle air control valve is screwed, i never had a single issue with my h22a/eg, make sure that block off plate is actually blocking off air, and you have a breather for your pcv or crank case ventiallation?
Yeah I'm going to buy new gaskets for the eacv and block off plate. And also for the tb if I can find the skunk2 one.
I don't have breathers, but they aren't capped off. They empty into the atmosphere

This may or may not help, but try setting your tps to around .25v at idle. From my experience, they dont like to be set near .5v. On my car, it made a huge difference in drivability. Forget what it says in the manual and give it shot.
Also, say you find the cause of your idle (if its not tps related), i'd still try the .25v setting and see what it does.

1) Fix your o2 issue that will effect things or alter
2) FITV if you have one make sure the screw on the back tighten down sometimes comes loose.
3) H22's commonly have this radical idle hickup more times then not it's IACV or FITV.

Mine was my iacv. I cleaned mine real well to no avail. I got the one off of my other motor and then the issue stopped.
Thanks guys I'll try all those things.
I had a bung welded in for the o2 so its now %100 functional. And I also have a new chip coming within the next few days.
As far as the FITV goes I don't have one. The s2 tb deletes it.
My manifold is the oem jdm one that came with the motor. I should try a new iacv on for size though.
Tomorow I'll be going to honda for a new oem tb gasket and I'm going to try to use the oem tb. I didn't have these issues before upgrading the tb and porting the manifold. And also the screw on the back of the oem TB has already been tightened down to save me from doing it while on the car. I'll keep you guys posted

Well it should be fixed tomorow! The problem is the gasket between the two halves of the manifold is bad. I took the car in for an alignment today and they offered to put it on the smoke machine.
What it is for those who don't know(I didn't know it even existed
) is a machine that pumps a smoke into the manifold through a vacuum hole and where the leak is, smoke will come from that spot!
Pretty clever huh? Anyway thanks to everybody who came through and tried to help. This site is the bomb
