Default SRS question

I finally got my hands on a passenger side srs for my del sol. But the thing weighs a freeking ton.
My question is this:
Does it have to be plugged in to deploy?
I think i want to unbolt the cover and use just the cover in my car cause the whole unit is so heavy. But i dont want to start unbolting it and have it deploy on my *** killing me or something.

Any one know the answer? Is it safe to mess with if its not plugged in?

Just put the whole thing in. Screw the weight savings.

honestly , the thing weighs like 40 - 50 lbs. I was thinking of making some fashion of pop up dvd player there. What do you think? maybe a stash spot.

Its not like these cars are much safer with air bags.

is your SRS light going to be on with the airbag out? IMO an SRS light is annoying.

hmmmmm............ watch a movie every now and then or kill your buddy with a dvd player flying out and smashing into his/her face if you ever wreck..... Sounds like a tough choice, i know. Im kinda leaning towards the airbag.... To answer your question though, you need some kinda electrical charge to have it deploy.

The answer is it could deploy while not plugged in if static electricity invaded the circuitry. The likelihood of this is low, but it could happen.

If you have the pass airbag out, then your whole SRS system is disabled and your driver side airbag is also disabled. You would have to switch the SRS computer to an older one for any Civic that DIDN'T have the pass airbag. For the Del Sol, the only option you have is from the 1993 model year.

In theory, either should work, and probably will. Driver's side airbags are the same on the Civic and del Sol, and I believe the plugs are the same too.

Actually it doesn't matter what SRS computer you use, if one airbag is unplugged none of the airbags will work. In the cars that didn't come equipped with passenger airbags, there is a "dummy" resistor in it's place to simulate the airbag. This resistor is about 2 ohms. If you want the drivers airbag to still work, Honda recommends replacing the SRS harness with a harness from a vehicle with no passenger airbag, however, I have soldered in a 2 ohm resistor in the past, and it has worked fine. Just do a super clean job of it and shrink tube it.

There is, but if the airbags go off then the computer is toast.
