i have a mini me swap on my 88 crx si. and everytime im driving and i let go of the gas to coast it my CEL turns on and its code 17 vss(vehicle speed sensor). i can figure out why.
i checked the speed cable to make sure it was fully in the tranny and then drove around the block and same thing pops up. the weired thing about is that my speedometer works good tells me how fast im going.

I'm having the same issue as well. But, I have a chipped ecu, which is what I think the problem revolves around because I had a problem with the 2step not allowing me to go over that rpm switchover. My speedometer is working fine as well. and like you, it only comes on when I'm coasting. I have noticed though, that it does not come up when it is cold outside. but if it's like over 60 I see the code more. My gas mileage doesn't go down and my vtec still works, so I just turn the car off and turn it back on. What ecu are you running?

yeah, mine is an odb1 chipped ecu as well. I think it is because of the odb1 cars having an electronic vss instead of mechanical like our stock ones and since they don't receive that signal that code is thrown. If I put my p08 ecu in there I have no problems whatsoever, but then I get a drop in power.

the ef vss is built into the cluster, make sure its seated properly in the cluster or swap with another one and see if it goes away.

what? swap another cluster in since it's built in? If it wasn't seated properly, the needle would be bouncing at least when he starts coasting.

Yup! The VSS on the EF is built into the cluster. You need to make sure your OBD0 to OBD1 adapter has the wire needed to feed the VSS signal from it's location on the OBD0 chassis harness to the OBD1 position on the ECU plug.

thats why i stated to try another cluster to see if it goes away, something may be wrong with the vss in the cluster or like jaker posted above make sure the wiring is correct.
