Odd Starting Issues!!!!!! Please help
For about a month now my hatch won't do anything when i turn the key to the "start" position. No click, no turn over, nothing at all. I push start it and it runs fine. So far i have replaced the starter and I bought a new positive battery cable, negative battery cable and ground, and the ground that goes from the valve cover to the radiator support, all new oem pieces from honda. The battery was replaced about 6 months ago so I figure it is still good.
Now what is odd is that it was doing this about 3-4 months ago which caused me to put in the new starter, once I did it would start fine for awhile and then it would only start sometimes. Same thing happened when i changed all the grounds. Now it just won't do anything. I dont know if it matters but i did change the main relay out with a known good one and nothing. I also attempted to jump the car and it did nothing which leads me to assume the battery is fine. I also took the starter out and brought it in to get it tested and it was perfect. One last thing I tried was grounding the starter directly to the battery instead of having it ground through the tranny and that also did nothing for me.
When I turn the key to the "on" position everything works fine power wise. Also the car has a sohc zc running a completely stock si wiring harness just in case that helps at all.
Have any of you had similar issues with starting? What has worked and/or what do you think could be my problem? Push starting everywhere I have to go is getting really old haha.

well my crx used to do that alot when it was kinda cold outside.
what i found out is my alternator was killing my battery power. your battery should be powering everything, but it wont power your car to turn on which is what hapened in my case. i can turn the key on and jam to my music as loud as it gets but it wouldnt start. if its your alternator just replace it, and have someone pull your car out of 1st gear. be sure to be siting in ur car gettin redy to push in that clutch when he pops u out of 1st. btw i did this like 3 days ago and my car starts up and everything.

Well I did try to jump it off of my friends battery and it still didnt start so that leads me to believe that my battery is not loosing charge.
Check the litle switch on the clutch pedal assembly that will cause your starter to not work with the key. Oh by the way there is a little piece of rubber that is supposed to be in the pedal to depress the switch. Check to see if that is thjere before you mess with the switch
Check the signals coming out of your ignition harness on your ignition lock. These colors are for a 90 Civic, so they should be similar to yours. If not, let me know. The way to check is to put your multimeter on the suspected wire, and turn the key to the appropriate location. You should be reading in volts DC.
12 Volts - White/Black
Starter - Black/White
Ignition - Black/Yellow
Accessory - Yellow
Second Accessory - Blue/White
After you try these, check and see if your clutch switch is plugged in and operating correctly.

I don't have to depress the clutch in my car to start it. The harness came out of an 88-89. I will check the ignition switch out though, that was actually the next thing on my list anyways.
Thanks for the help guys

Well how was your clutch pedal bypassed? Were the wires cut and then jumped? Or is there a zip tie holding the button in? Maybe whatever it is that bypassed your clutch has failed.
I'm pretty sure that the 88-89 models did not have the clutch safety. Maybe it was just the 88's. Either way the harness had no plug for it and the pedal assembly has no switch on the clutch pedal. The car was originally an automatic and the previous owner did the swap to manual so as far as that goes idk. When i bought the car i took out the hacked harness (under dash and engine harness) and installed a completely stock, si 5-speed harness from an 88 or 89. Also it gave me no issues at all for over a year until now.
Well I'd try out and see if the right signals are coming out of your ignition harness next. 12V is a constant, Accessory is the first click, Ignition is the second click, and Starter is full turn.
Problem Solved!!!
Well a while back I had to change the little spade connector on the wire that connects to the starter solenoid because the original one broke. Well apparently, even though it looked perfectly fine, it had a bad connection. So I changed it out, made sure the connection was strong, and it starts right up no hesitation.
Thanks for the suggestions anyways guys. I appreciate the help.

I had the same problem with mine once, so I was gunna suggest that. If that wasn't it I'd say go after your ignition switch. Had that one bite me too. Glad you figured it out!
